WPT Grand Prix de Paris Day 1A: Rettenmaier and Sexton Looking Strong
The WPT Grand Prix de Paris at the world-renowned Aviation Club de France has finally arrived. Marvin Rettenmaier and Mike Sexton each finished Day 1a with a top ten stack and will be very comfortable entering Day 2.

The WPT Grand Prix de Paris kicked off today. An impressive 140 players entered the tournament on Day 1a, paying €7,500 a piece for 30,000 starting chips.
This year's attendance looks like it has a great chance to outnumber last year's 247 total entrants. That tournament was won by Theo Jorgensen for €633,902. Part of the reason for the likely increase in attendance could be the slight drop in price, however, as last year's buy-in was €10,000.
Despite deep starting stacks, chips moved around a bit more than one would expect throughout the day. In fact, when the field hit 70 players the tournament director decided to end the day early because players were being knocked out too quickly. Those 70 will all return to combine with tomorrow's Day 1b survivors on Wednesday.
Perhaps the most well-known player with a big Day 1a stack is WPT spokesperson and poker legend Mike Sexton, who sits in 7th place overall with 74,000 chips.
Though he might not have the fame of Mike Sexton, German pro Marvin Rettenmaier sits in 5th place with 104,600 chips. It seems like he's more likely to have a big stack than not in any tournament he plays lately, and with chips he'll be a force to be reckoned with on Wednesday.
Some noteworthy Day 1a bustouts include Kara Scott and James Akenhead.
The final table of this tournament will be streamed live with visible hole cards and a 30-minute delay.
The second half of the field for this tournament will hit the felt tomorrow for Day 1b.
