WPT Merit Cyprus Classic Day 3: Layne Flack in control
Layne Flack put up a strong showing of Day 3 to quadruple his chip stack and take a commanding chip lead. Jonathan Little and Huck Seed remain in contention as both finished in the top 10.
As the WPT Merit Cyprus Classic closes in on the Final Table, just 21 players are left standing after Day 3. With 912,000 out of the 7 million odd chips in play, Layne Flack is well ahead of the field and looking good for a final table appearance.
Team Full Tilt members Chris Ferguson, Allen Cunningham and Andy Bloch all hit the rails today. Joining them on the sidelines would be fellow pros Dan Harrington, Yosh Nakano and Roy Winston.
jonathanlittle is looking good after playing himself into a Top 10 spot with 393,000 chips. 1996 WSOP Main Event Champ Huck Seed is two places ahead of Little with 456,000 chips.
Flack and Medic battle in out
With 27 players left, the tables were redrawn and Flack was seated alongside Nenad Medic, Dan Harrington, Yosh Nakano and 2008 November Niner Kelly Kim. Flack and Medic who was the overnight chip leader were engaged in a couple of big hands together but it was Flack who took down the chips both times.
In the first hand, Flack put out a bet on a board of 
. Medic did not hesitate for too long before announcing a big raise. Flack took his time to think about the situation, but eventually called Medic's bet. Medic announced two-pair but before he could show his cards, Flack showed 
and took down the pot, much to the displeasure of Medic.
Not long later, Medic and Flack were at it again. This time, Medic had raised after Rony Jazzar limped in, Flack re-raised him and Medic called as Jazzar stepped aside. On the flop of 
, Flack announced a bet of 100,000 and Medic hit the tank for almost 2 minutes before he thought better of playing against Flack again.
Action will continue on Day 4 with just 3 players left to go before the top 18 make the cash. A minimum prize of $17,300 awaits the 16th-18th placed finishers while $73,535 is guaranteed for a final table appearance. The top 4 will receive a 6-digit payout, with the winner walking away with $579,165.
