WSOP 2016, week two roundup
Two weeks in, the 47th World Series of Poker is in full flow and we roundup the highlights so far.
Jason DeWitt Wins Millionaire Maker
32 year old poker millionaire Jason DeWitt, came out on top of 7,190 entries to win this year's Millionaire Maker no-limit hold'em event, adding to the $2m he has collected in live earnings already and a prior WSOP title. The Californian banked $1,065,403 along with his second gold bracelet having seeing off Garrett Greer's challenge in a heads up on Wednesday.
The $1,500 buy-in event, whose 7,000 plus entries made it the eighth largest live tournament in poker history, also marked the first time that second place as well as first was guaranteed a minimum of $1m, a factor that DeWitt credits to his relaxed attitude in the showdown. DeWitt explained; "The difference between first and second was only $65,000 so I could play aggressively, I’m just glad I didn’t finish third."
Ryan LaPlante's bankroll grows
As we told you earlier in the week, Ryan LaPlante saw off 2,483 entrants in the biggest non-hold’em live tournament in poker history on Saturday when he won the $565 buy-in pot limit Omaha event.
The 26-year-old poker pro is enjoying his summer and now has his first WSOP bracelet but, cash wise, he wasn’t done there. Just hours later, he took his seat in the Millionaire Maker, where he also scored a cash, just as he did in the $1,000 no-limit hold’em event which closed out on Tuesday and bought his cash tally to six so far. For the record, the most cashes in a single series is twelve, set by Konstantin Puchkov back in 2012.

First bracelet win for Jean Gaspard
While Jason Mercier was picking up his fourth WSOP bracelet, 44 year old Jean Gaspard was collecting his first. Haiti born Gaspard, an ex-basketball pro, picked up $306,621 for winning the $10,000 buy-in dealer’s choice event, the biggest win so far in his poker career which has now reached over $2.2 million in live tournament earnings.
Bianchi wins big in last chance game
Twitcher, Chase Bianchi also claimed his first bracelet after taking down the $1,000 buy-in no limit hold’em event.
The 28 year old took home $316,920, his first ever cash in the series, in what was his last game before flying out of Vegas the next day.
