WSOP Event #42: Jerrod Ankenman Wins The Title

The remaining 14 players returned for the final play day of the $2,500
Mixed event and even though Jimmy Fricke ended Day 2 by losing a large
portion of his stack, he entered Day 3 in a great manner, picking up
pots whenever he could. Soon enough, his short stack of just  to 47,400 in chips climbed up to 335,000.

It didn't take long for the first victims of the day to fall, namely
Blair Rodman and the winner of Event #10 Rami Boukai had to pack their
bags first. As the play progressed, the final table bubble boy was
reached and surprisingly, it was Jimmy Fricke. Even though he mounted a
great comeback, he couldn't make his way to the final table and had to
leave in 9th place for which he earned $18,000.

Dario Alioto's (pictured left) final table appearance didn't last for long, as he was
seen making his way out in 8th place. Layne Flack followed him in 7th
place after an encounter with Eric Crain. Ironically, it was Crain who
would have to leave the table next.

With three players already
out of the way, the remaining five players battled back and forth until
Jon Turner met his end in a round of Limit Hold'em. Jerrod Ankenman
raised from under the gun and Turner called all-in from the next
position. Sergey Altbregin called  and so did Chris Klodnicki.

The flop came and everyone checked. The turn brought , Altbregin checked, Klodnicki bet and Ankenman called while Altbregin folded. The river came and both Klodnicki and Ankenman checked. Turner tabled , Ankenman showed and Klodnicki revealed . Ankenman won the hand and Turner was out in 5th place.

In
a round of No Limit Hold'em, Klodnicki raised to 30,000, Jeff Tims
moved all-in for his last 75,000 and Klodnicki called. Tims showed and Klodnicki revealed . The flop came and with the on the turn, Tims was flushed from the final table in 4th place.

Chris Klodnicki bid farewell to the final table in a round of Pot Limit
Omaha. He raised to 30,000 and Jerrod Ankenman called. The flop came ,
Ankenman checked, Klodnicki made a pot-size bet for 72,000, Ankenman
repotted it to 288,000 total and Klodnicki moved all-in for roughly
375,000.

Ankenman called and showed while Klodnicki held . The turn brought and gave Ankenman the flush and with the on the river, Klodnicki's path to the title was sealed, as he had to pack his bags in 3rd place.

The heads-up play featured Sergey Altbregin holding a 1,680,000 to
1,410,000 chip lead over Jerrod Ankenman (pictured right). Altbregin had to move one
seat to his left so that the dealer could reach him better, but that
wasn't as simple as it sounds. Altbregin's friend was rather upset by
this and requested that Altbregin at least took the same chair he was
seated in before the switch. Altbregin agreed on that and switched the
chairs.

With or without his lucky chair, Altbregin couldn't find a way to
defeat Jerrod Ankenman. In their final hand, it was a round of No Limit
Hold'em and Ankenman bet 50,000 on a flop of . Altbregin moved all-in for his last 400,000 and Ankenman made the call, turning over . Altbregin showed and with the on the turn and the on the river, Jerrod Ankenman had secured himself the title.
