WSOP Event #42: Turner Leads The 14 Survivors Into Day 3
Day 2 of the $2,500 Mixed event saw most of the remaining pros busting either before or after the bubble was burst. Jimmy Fricke fought his way through the day and all seemed well until the last minutes of play.
The remaining 153 players returned for Day 2 of the $2,500 Mixed event.Even though over half of the field was lost on Day 1, many top pros
were still in the race for the title, including Steve Billirakis, J.C.
Tran, Daniel Negreanu, Todd Brunson, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and Marcel Luske.
Negreanu struggled to get his stack to a decent size but eventually had
to pack his bags. He was last seen on the Limit Hold'em battlefield
with pocket jacks going up against Michael Keiner's pocket kings. The
kings held up and that was it for Negreanu. Jennifer Harman was also
busted, just 15 places short of the money.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Fricke was more or less successful in keeping himself alive. In the round of Pot Limit Omaha, on a flop of 
, Fricke led out for 8,000 and Layne Flack made the call. The turn brought 
, Fricke checked, Flack bet 15,000 and Fricke called. The river came 
, Fricke checked, Flack bet 27,000 and Fricke called. Flack turned over 
for a full house and Fricke threw his hand into the muck. Flack climbed
up to 176,000 by winning this pot and Fricke was left with a
dangerously short stack.
Jimmy Fricke got fresh chips to his stack after an encounter against Tuan Le
which resulted in Fricke's stack reaching 58,000 mark and Tuan Le
making his exit. The long-awaited bubble was finally reached after Nick
Frangos made his way out in 41st place. With the bubble burst, the
eliminations started to line up and by the end of the night, only 14
players defended their seats.
Than Luu was the last victim for the day, after his 
lost against Layne Flack's (pictured left) 
in a round of No Limit Hold'em. The board came 
to give Flack a pair of aces and bust Luu in 15th place. By winning this hand, Flack rose up to 310,000 in chips.
Even though Luu was the last player who was sent to the rail on Day 2,
Jimmy Fricke didn't really end his night much better. In a round of
PLO, on a flop of 
, Rami Boukai checked to Fricke who fired 15,000 into the pot and Boukai quickly called. The turn brought , Boukai made a pot-size bet, Fricke moved all-in and revealed 
while Boukai turned over 
.
Boukai commented, "I guess I need a jack or a ten." And the dealer granted his wish, adding to the board the
on the river. Fricke couldn't believe his luck, as the pot was slided
towards Bouaki. This devastating loss left Fricke with just 47,400 and
he will have to work his way up as a short stack on Day 3.
Jon Turner will enter Day 3 in the chip lead with 489,200 in chips, followed closely behind by Jerrod Ankenman with 412,000.
