WSOP Event #6: David Oppenheim Back On Track
The Seven Card Stud Championship with a buy-in of $10,000 has just kicked off, and a known face has found its way to the top of the star-crowded field yet again.
As expected, the Seven Card Stud Championship turned out to be one of the most densely packed fields when it comes to poker talent. With a $10,000 buy-in, a lot of skill aggregated in this event and it comes as no surprise that the eliminations were rather slow. With a mere 40 railbirds, the majority of the flock can resume singing and tweeting tomorrow.
The contest was tense at the upper echelon of the ladder, too. Three players were fighting for the chip lead at the end of the day - and each one of them a heavy weight in his own right. In the end, Benjamin Lin - who won the 2006 $5,000 Seven Card Stud Event - and David Oppenheim - the man who has already played the final table in this event for the past two years - had to give it up for Matthew Glantz on his quest to his third final table after the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. and the $10,000 Eight-Game Mix in 2008.
If you just take a look at a few of the other big names still in the
running, the high level of this event becomes obvious rather quickly:
Johnny Chan, Eli Elezra, Andy Bloch, Scotty Nguyen, Erick Lindgren,
Phil Ivey, Katja Thater, David Benyamine, Chris Ferguson, Dario
Minieri, Daniel Negreanu - and the list just goes on and on.
In contrast, the likes of Tony G, Greg Raymer, Barry Greenstein, Howard
Lederer and Annie Duke were amongst the few who already had to take
their leave.
With a narrow margin of only 4,000 chips between first and third place, the lead however is far from consolidated and we can look forward to another fierce race tomorrow:
