Watch the trailer for Oscar Isaac's new poker movie

The poker world still waits for a movie to rival Rounders, will The Card Counter be the next great poker movie?

It stars Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish and William Defoe. The trailer for it dropped yesterday:

Poker and gambling look like the backdrop for the movie, but really it looks like a gritty revenge drama. Martin Scorsese is involved and it is directed by Paul Schrader who wrote the screen plays for Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. 

With that pedigree and very exciting looking trailer, while it cannot be guaranteed it will be a perfect poker movie, it clearly looks like it will be a very good in its own right. Poker fans generally have to accept that poker is usually just a vehicle to drive the action and simplified so a mainstream audience can understand it.

However, we do know at a minimum that a real member of the poker community was involved. PokerStars commentator Joe 'Stapes' Stapelton revealed yesterday he was a poker consultant on the movie:

The Card Counter is currently expected to be released on September 10.
