World Poker Tour Expands into The American Midwest
In January 2010 the World Poker Tour (WPT) will have its first stop in the American Midwest. Indiana will host a $10,000 championship event.
It may be eerie to some but Indiana will soon be welcoming the World Poker Tour into its spooky midst. The poker express is heading to the Midwest.
Lawrenceburg to be exact. Thirty miles from Cincinnati, Ohio; from June 26th Lawrenceburg will be home to the newly built, designed and named Hollywood Casino (formerly the Argosy Casino Hotel). Come January 2010, it will also be home to the first $10,000 World Poker Tour event in the American Midwest. The event will be part of the Season VIII schedule and will be filmed for broadcast worldwide.
As well as the WPT event the casino has already tied up deals to host the Tri-State Poker Championship in May, the Indiana State Poker Championship in August, and the Hollywood Fall Classic in November.
As the biggest poker room in the Midwest the Hollywood’s general manager Tony Rodio is expecting big things:
“Our space compares with the elite poker rooms in Las Vegas. There’s nothing like it in the region, and we expect players throughout the Midwest to travel here and make Cincinnati one of the country’s major poker destinations.”
Steve Liscomb, founder of the WPT and current CEO also waxed lyrical about the forthcoming event and the continued expansion of the WPT:
“We are so thrilled to add the Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg to our tour—not only is this our first ever WPT stop in the Midwest, but it’s also our first ever WPT event on a riverboat-style property. The Hollywood Casino not only adds a new and unique element to the tour for professional players, but it’s also the perfect property for bringing the WPT experience to players in the Midwest.”
