Zeffke wins tournament on Full Tilt Poker

Our new moderator won a tournament on Full Tilt Poker and defeated 485 opponents. He got $607.50 for the first place!

A lot of our members already know the 23 years old Belgian who studies medicine. Last week he was able to fight his way through a field of 485 players and won it all. The buy-in of the tournament was $5+$0.50 and at the end his effort was rewarded with $607.50!

Zeffke is a member of PokerStrategy since April 2007 "if the date in the forum is correct". This tournament win was his first big success and we were able to ask a few questions afterwards:

PokerStrategy: Which limits do you normally play?
Zeffke: I started with NL5, moved up to NL10 , to NL25 and now reached NL50 which I'm playing 90% of the time, the other 10% I still play NL5 with some friends I recently introduced to Pokerstrategy.com.

PokerStrategy: How did you do throughout the tournament. Can you describe some decisive hands?
Zeffke: In the beginning I played very tight and didn't get any hands, limped some pocket pairs, didn't hit anything so I was happy when a maniac kept pushing any crap when I found . I made the all-in call and doubled up. Some hands later I could double up again with vs . I was one of the bigger stacks at that point. Then I got , and another pre-flop allin against a pretty big stack, he turned over but caught the on the flop and I was crippled. The very next hand with only 5BB left I pushed and trippled up against and But I was playing the short stack for the whole tournament.

PokerStrategy: Which tactic did you have when you reached the final table?
Zeffke: I got to the final table in 7th position out of 9. There was one very aggressive big stack with more then 30% of the remaining chips who kept pushing every single hand and once a player called he sucked them out or he showed 🙂 Really unbelievable. So after 4-5 minutes there were only 3 players left, me included. In 2 hands I managed to eliminate him with and and it was heads-up. It was a very passive player what was profitable to me. But I lost a big hand and was an underdog in chips (11:3). But I managed to fight back with aggressive play and won it after all.

PokerStrategy: Could you please describe the final hand and your thoughts?
Zeffke: I got in the small blind, made my standard raise, he reraised and after taking some time (for distraction) I pushed him all-in. He turns over , didn't improve and I win my first big tourney. The thoughts when I saw him turning over was indescribable, I knew it was going to happen right then, for sure when I saw a very lovely flop.
