k1ngenx wins 24k in the Full Tilt Sunday Brawl

Fourth place in the Full Tilt Sunday Brawl was not the first tournament success for k1ngenx, but it was his biggest so far.

Three days ago, our platinum member
k1ngenx finished fourth in the Sunday brawl on Full Tilt Poker, securing $24k for his efforts. We managed to get a hold of him, and will now introduce you to one of our successful community member.

PokerStrategy: First of all, congratulations! Please tell us, and the rest of the community, a bit about yourself and how you got involved with poker.

k1ngenx: Hello, my real name is Kristian, I'm 19 years old and live in Oslo, Norway. I first started playing poker when I was about 10 years old, playing 5 card draw with my family from time to time.
It wasn't until a few years later that I discovered online poker, and became
addicted. I went from rich to busto many times, but have now finally managed
to secure a steady income through poker. And yes, Pokerstrategy helped me back on my feet one time when I was busto.

PokerStrategy: Well it's good to hear that you are being successful with poker now! Are you solely a tournament player? What kind of tournaments and buy-ins do you usually play?

k1ngenx: I usually grind out NL HU at Full Tilt Poker and some other sites, at stakes from NL200 to NL600 depending on the games and opponents. When I get bored of the grind I take a break for a week or so and play tourneys with quite some success. I used to play a lot more tourneys in the past.
On Sundays, I play most of the big tournaments on Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars. Sometimes I also play tourneys with smaller buy-ins on other sites.

PokerStrategy: The next time you're deep in the Sunday Million, feel free to give the forum a shout - I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in cheering you on. You say you have reached several final tables lately - any details?

k1ngenx: On the same day I had my Sunday Brawl success, I also took down the 5.5k Guaranteed at Full Tilt Poker for 1.5k. It was my first win in a long time, so I was very proud.
Earlier that week, I also managed to get back-to-back final tables at the Full Tilt Poker 24K Guaranteed two days in a row, for 3rd and 5th place respectively. Since I had also bubbled the final table in FTOPs 16 a few days before that, I was
pretty down. Another classic case of my kings meet aces for a finish as 10th or 11th.

PokerStrategy: Do you have any tips for aspiring tournament / poker players?

k1ngenx:
Don't always go only for the big score. Even if Phil Ivey or Gus Hansen played the Sunday Million every day of the year, they would still have slim chances of actually winning it even once. It is also important that when you do play, pay attention to the game - don't watch TV or porn, surf or chat in MSN etc. Oh ya, and stalling on the bubble is lame. 🙂

PokerStrategy: Can you tell us a little bit about the Sunday Brawl tournament
itself? Any interesting hands or situations you got into?

k1ngenx: Well, I got a very solid start and was up to 9k early on, but
I was playing like 8 tourneys at the same time, so I didn't get to play my A-game unfortunately.
I then got very short around the bubble, but won a very important coin flip to get
back in it. I also had some rushes closer to the final table where I doubled up
twice
when limping to induce a shove with AT which held up against T7, and
next hand I was all-in again with AQ vs AJ. This really helped build a chip stack for the final table. The final table itself was really aggressive, and I kind of
stayed under the radar.
There was lots of 3-betting and 4-betting. At one point, I called a 4-bet all-in with 5 players left with 77 and was shown 33. My hand held up again and 10 minutes later it was 4-handed.
I raised KJ suited on the button and was shoved on
by a very aggressive big blind, made a though call and was shown 26 suited.
A 6
on the flop and no help from turn or river sent me out of the tournament (the 2/6 man went on to win the tournament), but what can you do. Ah yes, I busted Michael Gracz
or something, (an FTP pro) so im getting a new t-shirt. 😀

PokerStrategy: Nice call & tough luck, but hey, that's poker. Congratulations on the shirt though! Is there anything else you would like to say? 🙂

k1ngenx: Well, as I said stay in your comfort zone and strictly follow BRM, and you'll soon enough move up. 99% of the players are donks.
