Thanks to everyone, not least & gerv, for suggesting an interview slot. Here's the first one, a suitable selection I feel due to the recent Battle of the Donkeys results, hope you enjoy.
Spotlight on dippy19, Interviewed by eaglestar88.
PokerStrategy: Hi dippy19, welcome and thanks for agreeing to an interview for the community. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
dippy19: Hello, my name is Aleš, I'm from Slovenia and I'm a poker addict 🙂 But seriously, I'm a 21 year old law student, but I have to say that apparently I'm not very good at it. The only other thing I could really relate my self to is being a poker player.
PokerStrategy: How would you describe yourself, are you a quiet, laid back type of person or a fun loving party animal?
dippy19: I used to be more of a fun loving party anmial type of person, but lately I've pretty much settled back and I have to say I'm more of a stay at home, relax on the sofa type now. I still attend a party or two here and there 😉
PokerStrategy: Do you speak any other languages apart from your native language and English of course?
dippy19: K hm, well, I did study French for 4 years, but I can bearly introduce myself. I'll just blame it all on my teacher 😀
PokerStrategy: How did your nickname come about, does it have any special meaning?
dippy19: Funny story, well, not that funny, but it's a story none the less. The first poker room I registered at was Party Poker and while I was registering I couldn't think of a nick. I looked around a bit and the first thing I saw was my Tae Kwon Do diploma that I have on the wall, so I just entered diploma19 (I was 19 years old back then). I sucked back than so I naturally lost my money and I played freerolls to try and win something. While playing one of these freerolls a guy/girl kept calling me Dippy in the chat, so when I registered at PS I just decided that it's more catchy than diploma.
Dippy on poker
PokerStrategy: lol nice, so you been playing a couple of years then?
dippy19: I guess 2-3 years, but I only started really playing poker and not throwing money away or grinding freerolls less than a year ago. I'm actually mad at myself for losing 2 good poker years on being a donk 😛
PokerStrategy: How did you first start in poker, were you introduced by someone?
dippy19: Not really. I just thought that there has to be an easier way to make money, than work or going to school and poker seemed like such a thing. But I did get the idea from a friend, although he doesn't play poker.
PokerStrategy: How would you describe your poker style?
dippy19: TAGish LAG.
PokerStrategy: Which variants are you currently playing and at what levels?
dippy19: Well I'm mainly a FL player. Currently I play 2$/4$ and 3$/6$, although I played 5$/10$ a while, but due to a heavy downsing I had to move down again 🙁 I also played some SH NL up to NL100 and I did ok, but I decided to put it aside for now, since I need to study it a bit more before playing it again. Besides cash games I also enjoy a tournament or two here and there for a nice chance to win big quick. 🙂
PokerStrategy: Do you ever play any live events, or are you mainly online based?
dippy19: I've actually never played live, except NL10 with friends, but I'm going to my first live tournament tomorrow and I'm pretty excited. 🙂
PokerStrategy: Cool, I know that all the community would like to wish you good luck. Enjoy it.
dippy19: Thanks.
PokerStrategy: If you had to have a theme tune to enter a poker tournament to (like boxers when they enter the ring), what would it be?
dippy19: Eye of the tiger, because Rocky rulz!!!
PokerStrategy: Who are your favourite poker pro's and why?
dippy19: Phill Laak, funny guy.
PokerStrategy: What has been your biggest success/achievement in poker so far?
dippy19: Two "bigger" tournament cashes (82th for 1500$ and 6th for 2700$) and of course my general winnings, which amounted to quite some $$$ by now. Oh, and busting spacegravy out of a tournament. 🙂
PokerStrategy: If you had the opportunity of playing a final table with a selection of people of your choice, who would be seated there with you?
dippy19: If there would be a lot of money involved, then the biggest fish possible, otherwise definitely Sammy Farha and Phill Laak, so I could have a laugh while playing, also Boku, so I could ask him how he managed to not go nuts while his challenge and probably some other top pros, so I could brag about beating them later. 😛
Dippy on PokerStrategy
PokerStrategy: Can you remember what happened to the PokerStrategy $50? Did you lose it early on or is it still in your current bankroll somewhere?
dippy19: Lost it, quit poker, then said I'll give it one last serious shot, glad I did.
PokerStrategy: What do you like most about PokerStrategy?
dippy19: Everything. The content is great, the community is nice, the bonuses are the best online. What's not to like?
PokerStrategy: Couldn't agree more. Do you have a favourite blog that you are currently following?
dippy19: Not really. I just read one here and there if I get the time.
PokerStrategy: What advice would you give to our newer members just starting out in poker for the first time?
dippy19: Knowledge is the key.
PokerStrategy: Hmm great words of wisdom there. Of course, we have just recently finished Season 3 of the Battle of the Donkeys (BotD), I understand that you were the driving force behind the 'We Minraize You' team and co-captained along with opal99, how did that come about?
dippy19: Well, when the first news about the new season of BOD came out I asked opal99 if he wants to form a team, and then we did:) But he kept saying that I was the captain and I kept saying that we ware co-captains, and tbh I don't think he still wants to admit that he was a captain or co-captaing. But doesn't really matter, since none of us did much and our victory in the English community is the product of all the team members that played extremely well. Congrats to all of you!
PokerStrategy: Whilst the English teams didn't manage to beat our Spanish community colleagues in the end, the Minraize team did really well and were actually the best English team, I assume you are rightly proud of what you and the team achieved?
dippy19: Absolutely. We showed that FL players can also kick ass at tournaments 🙂
PokerStrategy: lol yeah. Do you have any words of comfort for after his team lost their number 1 status after all these years?
dippy19: All fish run hot sometimes.
PokerStrategy: Why do you like the BotD so much, what do players get out of it?
dippy19: I personally like the fact that the community gets to do something fun together, ppl get to know each other on IRC and stuff, It's fun. Also it's nice for the new players to help them get involved in the community and maybe even find a study partner or group or something, I don't know, it's just fun 🙂
PokerStrategy: Will the Minraize team be back again next season to defend their title?
dippy19: Hmm… Not really up to me, I'll have to ask my co-captain 😀
PokerStrategy: Is there anyone in particular from the community you'd like to give a shout out to?
dippy19: opal99 of course, for co-captaning our team and our headadmins and for making it all possible.
Dippy on life outside poker
PokerStrategy: What is/are your passions outside of poker?
dippy19: I practice Tae Kwon Do, which is a really nice martial art and a good exercise. Also useful for self defence. Otherwise I don't really have any passions, just things I do.
PokerStrategy: Do you enjoy travelling, what's your favourite place?
dippy19: Well, that might be my passion:) But sadly I never really made it out of Europe(if you don't count northern Africa). I actually have two favourite places, actually citys. First one is Rovaniemi, because there me and my gf kind of came together. The second is Prague, because it's a really beautiful city and the food is awesome.
PokerStrategy: Do you have any hero's/heroines outside of poker, in the world of showbiz, comedy, sports for example?
dippy19: No, I don't like the whole having an idol idea.
PokerStrategy: If money was no object, what would you buy?
dippy19: An apartment.
PokerStrategy: What really bugs you in life, what do you get annoyed at most?
dippy19: When people repeat the same thing over and over again. My mother does it a lot and it just pisses me off.
PokerStrategy: What really bugs you in life…… no sorry I couldn't do that to you, too obvious a gag ;o). Do you have any strange habits at all?
dippy19: Ehm, I'll just keep this one to myself.
PokerStrategy: Yeah probably best lol
The random question, courtesy of a well know search engine
PokerStrategy: Whats the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
dippy19: Go back to sleep X) I usually don't wake up in the morning, I wake up in the afternoon. But if you mean when I wake up, I usually go make my self a cup of coffee.
Turn the tables time
PokerStrategy: Ok, fairs fair, you now get the chance to ask me a question. Over the weeks the community will slowly get to know me a little better too, worts and all lol, what would you like to ask me?
dippy19: What's your shoe size?
PokerStrategy: I take a size 11 shoe (British scale), that’s a 46 on the European scale or 29.5cm. You know what they say, Big shoes, big…………errr feet 😉
And finally
PokerStrategy: Is there anything you would like to add or say to your fellow community members before we finish?
dippy19: Be cool, stay in school.
PokerStrategy: Well thank you for doing this interview dippy19, you've given us all a great insight into the person behind the nickname and we're very grateful for you taking the time out to talk to us today. We wish you continued success with your poker especially that live tournament and we look forward to seeing you in and around the forum soon.
