English Community Round-up

Welcome to the news round-up for the English Community. Each week, we will keep you in touch with some of the most important threads within the forum together with some of the fun posts, so that you never need to miss them.

Our
Community round-up is your weekly source for all that happens inside
the PokerStrategy forums. If you missed something last week and you
still want to be in touch with our community, here are some of the most
important posts. This is just one of many community-related projects
being set up.

Poker Blog of the week

We're going Short-Handed NL this week, or Gavin's School of Fish - NL10SH to be exact.

Community member gavinonymous is not new to blogging, but has decided to start a new blog on a new discipline.

I particularly like the "know your fish" feature, this has all the makings of a classic blog.

sample hand of the week

This weeks sample hand of the week comes from the MTT sample hands section is the first one posted by community member bolfa. Well thought out and backed by the Judge, hopefully the first of many great postings bolfa.

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em Tournament, 150/300 Blinds 25 Ante (8 handed) - Full-Tilt Hand Converter from HandHistoryConverter.com

Hero (Button) (t7125)
SB (t10574)
BB (t4270)
UTG (t5469)
UTG+1 (t8515)
MP1 (t6106)
MP2 (t5053)
CO (t11074)

Hero's M: 10.96

Preflop: Hero is Button with J, J
2 folds, MP1 bets t900, 1 fold, CO raises to t11049 (All-In), Hero calls t7100 (All-In), 3 folds

Flop: (t15750) 8, Q, Q (2 players, 2 all-in)

Turn: (t15750) A (2 players, 2 all-in)

River: (t15750) 8 (2 players, 2 all-in)

Total pot: t15750

bolfa: "Why I called? Both of them were playing many hands. MP1 opened a lot,
and CO pushed several times before. Two hands before this one, same
thing happened. MP1 opened and CO pushed and took the pot. I don't
think he would do this with AA or KK, so I only see QQ dominating my
hand. Most of the time it is a flip with AQ+, but I also see him do
this with weaker hands like 99 or AJs.
Was it ok to gamble or is it a bad call?

Judge grummeler: "with your reads i think its a good call. If he really was that active and you have such a lose range on him i like this move.
Against such lose players JJ is a very strong hand and your stack is in
a good size to do this "gambling" here although you dont have to."

Congratulations to all our winners/other performances, which included:

  • ihufa wasn't content winning a big tournament last week, so he entered and won it again this week, many congrats;
  • karmolll secured multiple cashes totalling over $6k;
  • shadow01011979 won a Full Tilt freeroll;

Sorry I cannot name everyone each week, but I'll try to pick up a
selection of different people each time. Keep posting those wins in this thread, we're still short of our $1,000,000 target, but have broken the $400k mark with a current total of $471,893.68.

spotlight on

Spotlight this week on community member miskokvo, interviewed by eaglestar88.

PokerStrategy:
Hi miskokvo welcome and thanks for agreeing to an
interview for the community.

miskokvo: Hi, pleasure is on my side. 🙂

PokerStrategy:
Tell us a little bit about yourself

miskokvo: I'm 21 years old student from Slovakia "enjoying" studying business and barter.

PokerStrategy:
Is there a story behind the nickname, does it have any special meaning?

miskokvo: Nope, it is just a shortcut of my name, Michal Kvocka - MiskoKvo. I used to have a few other nicknames as an ice-hockey and counter-strike player but that is a different story...Chose to start in a new way.

PokerStrategy: How did you first start in poker, were you introduced by someone?

miskokvo: I've been playing about one year. I enjoyed watching guys from college play 1€ winner takes all tournaments and noticed that two guys were winning constantly. I was shocked because winner always took 9€, which was more than a half of my pocket money for a week. Here, for example, you can buy two bottles of vodka with that. 😀
One day a friend of mine invited me to a game and I started to play. Back then I was the biggest fish ever... counting on my fingers behind table if I had a straight, any picture card plus higher than 8 was nuts and like that 🙂

PokerStrategy:
lol is counting a straight on the fingers bad? I still do that today 🙂 How would you describe your poker style?

miskokvo: Currently I'm playing MTTs so my style is moving from tight to loose. But I very often play tight/explosive which costs me a lot of chips.

PokerStrategy:
Which variants are you currently playing and at what levels?

miskokvo: I'm kinda SNG player. Because of my explosiveness is a disaster for cash game.
Playing 12 tables of 26$ 45mans SNG right now.

PokerStrategy:
Do you ever play any live events, or are you mainly online based?

miskokvo: I enjoy playing live with friends but I think that online poker is much more lucrative with my BR.

PokerStrategy:
If you had to have a theme tune to enter a poker tournament to (like boxers when they enter the ring), what would it be?

miskokvo: Maybe Terminator intro song. 🙂

PokerStrategy:
Who are your favourite poker pro's and why?

miskokvo: Currently Gus Hansen for his style. But I love to watch Samy Farha. 🙂

PokerStrategy:
What has been your biggest success/achievement in poker so far?

miskokvo: Building my BR to a point where I'm not dependent on my parents anymore.

PokerStrategy:
If you had the opportunity of playing a final table with a selection of people of your choice (doesn't have to necessarily be poker players, anyone past or present), who would be seated there with you?

miskokvo: Final table? Hmm I wish I had there the biggest 8 fish in poker history, but I'd like to sit down with Hansen, Ivey, Farha, Elky, Dwan, Antonius, Daniel Negreanu and finally my brother.

PokerStrategy:
What do you like most about PokerStrategy?

miskokvo: PS is like 99% of my winnnings in poker so I like everything here.
Except of rankings/points. It is unfair that somebody has 2 points for 1$ and the other has 4.

PokerStrategy:
Hmm I think thats pretty much out of PokerStrategy's hands and dependant on each poker platform, but I understand what you mean. Do you have a favourite blog that you are currently following?

miskokvo: I'm watching every SNG or Slovak/Czech blog to compare my results.

PokerStrategy:
Cool, friendly competitiveness, thats always good to see. What advice would you give to our newer members just starting out in poker for the first time?

miskokvo: Read BRM articles and multiply those numbers by 2-3 :). And second one..use time button to think. 🙂

PokerStrategy:
Is there anyone in particular from the community you'd like to give a shout out to?

miskokvo: Yep...every Slovak/Czech player like thelastnail, opal99, barin22, luborc...Then the coaches, especialy grummeler and one unknown guy, zlovkvetinaci 😀 - my brother.

PokerStrategy:
Do you have any hobbies outside of poker?

miskokvo: I played ice hockey and pc games, but I'm 100% focused on poker right now.

PokerStrategy:
If money was no object, what would you buy?

miskokvo: My diploma. 😀 😀 😀

PokerStrategy:
If you were able to have 3x wishes (Harry Potter style), what would you ask for?

miskokvo: 1. immortality and then I wouldn't need any more wishes 🙂 I would reach them anyway with my immortality

PokerStrategy:
What really bugs you in life, what do you get annoyed at most?

miskokvo: Having to repeat myself and stupid people. 😀

PokerStrategy:
Well thank you for doing this interview miskokvo, you've given us all a great insight into the person behind the nickname and we're very grateful for you taking the time out to talk to us today. We wish you continued success with your poker and look forward to seeing you in the forum and on the green felt soon.

miskokvo: It was a pleasure. 🙂

Would you like to be interviewed yourself one week or maybe you'd like to
nominate a fellow member who you would like to know more about? Drop me
a reply in the feedback thread and maybe your wish will come true.

  and finally

In the middle of a nasty downswing?

Fish keep catching that miracle 1-outer?

Well why not take a break for 5 minutes and read through our Fun & Off-Topic thread. One such thread is You laugh you lose by community member sheepmoose.

For the record, I lost on pretty much the first picture, but it was worth it. 🙂

As always, this is your Community page and whilst I try to browse most
forum threads looking for points of interest, it's of course not
possible to cover everything. So go on, drop me some suggestions and/or
your thoughts on what you would like to appear in this Round-up news
item in the following feedback thread.
