is definately an option as well as raising. I slightly lean towards calling
again to induce another bet.

Performance of the Week

Spotlight on...
In the last of our current series of "Spotlight on..." we travel to Latvia to interview popular member grimzor.
PokerStrategy: Hi grimzor welcome and thanks for agreeing to an interview for the community.
grimzor: Hi, thank you for having me here. It's my pleasure and quite an honour to do an interview.
PokerStrategy: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
grimzor: I actually did an interview some time ago after I showed best result in one of BOD (Battle of Donkeys) events. Nothing much has changed since – my name is still Aldis, still live in Riga, Latvia and still study computer science. All that has changed is my age – now i am 21, which is very nice in case i win some ticket to a live donkament in USA. But doubt that`s happening anytime soon.
PokerStrategy: Tell us about your nickname, how did that come about?
grimzor: I used to play EVE Online where I had nickname "Grim”. I liked that word for some reason even before I found out its meaning. So I tried to use this nickname as much as possible, but I was not the only one who liked it, wherever I went it was already taken. So i added "zor”, which also came from EVE Online – we used to fool around with bunch of guys on teamspeak and started adding "zor” to every single word you say.
PokerStrategy: Nice. How long have you been playing poker?
grimzor: I dont really keep track of that but my guess is roughly 2 years and few months.
I started because I heard about my friends success who had won like 200$ in one evening by playing poker. That sounded like a lot to me and I wanted to give it a try. He was my ex-classmate and we both studied maths at school. I knew that if he could do it, then I could do it too. I asked him a bunch of questions, he gave me some links where i could read theory and i was on my way. I discovered Pokerstrategy few months later from another friend who had used your great offer.
PokerStrategy: How would you describe your poker style?
grimzor: TAG probably fits the best. I would like to think that i play LAG because i have huge respect for good LAGs, but I know it`s not true. I am somewhat LAG in FL SH games and maybe in Stud hi/lo. But I just cant play NL in LAG style. I try to loosen up a bit but I always end up playing quite nitty.
PokerStrategy: Which variants are you currently playing and at what levels?
grimzor: Oh, this is one of hardest questions for me. I play NL, SNGs, FL SH, Stud hi/lo and sometimes HORSE. Did i miss any game? Well, its easier to say that I play all the games there are. But most of games are just occasionally for fun. My strongest games are Stud hi/lo and NL. Started learning FL just recently after trying it out and seeing the incredibly bad play on micro and low limits. I am and have always been low stakes grinder – I play up to NL50 (took shoot at NL100 unsuccessefully), FL 1/2, Stud hi/lo 1/2 and tourneys up to like 20$.
PokerStrategy: Do you ever play any live events, or are you mainly online based?
grimzor: I recently started going to local casino to play some tourneys. Enjoying it a lot. Cash games hosted there are not for me though – very limited game choice and it starts from like NL200 for which i have no proper roll. I would love to go play live Stud hi/lo but as far as i know there arent such games in Latvia.
PokerStrategy: If you had to have a theme tune to enter a poker tournament to (like boxers when they enter the ring), what would it be?
grimzor: It should be scary and aggressive music. I am big fan of The Prodigy so i would pick something from them. I think remix of a song ”One Man Army” would suit perfectly.
PokerStrategy: Who are your favourite poker pro's and why?
grimzor: I like a lot of pros. Ivey, Hansen, Antonius, Negreanu. I have seen that many dislike Hansen for some reason, but I always root for him. His swings are sick and his ability to always come back gets huge respect from me. Ivey and Antonius are probably best guys out there – they always show superb results. Negreanu is just loads of fun in tourneys with his friendly attitude, jokes and great reads.
PokerStrategy: What has been your biggest success/achievement in poker so far?
grimzor: Probably 7th place in daily 30 grand on stars looong time ago. Busted with 88 vs 22 all in preflop and got 700+$ for that. But to tell the truth it`s just one win. The fact that i keep hanging in there and making some profit for more than 2 years is far more valueable in my mind.
PokerStrategy: Is there anyone in particular from the community you'd like to give a shout out to?
grimzor: Yea, would give my best regards to timukasr - he has helped me a lot and we used to grind some tourneys together railing each other, velak – for supporting me long time ago (he has been quite inactive lately), pecisc - for drawing me to poker and helping on my game.
Also would like to say hi to . Loved to play HORSE HU SNGs against him, was loads of fun – if you are reading this – How about some HORSE HU challange? 😀
PokerStrategy: Do you have any hobbies outside of poker?
grimzor: Poker has almost killed my other hobbies – I used to do more stuff before poker came into my life. My hobbies are pretty standard for student life –partying with friends, music festivals, movies, some boat and road trips, etc.
PokerStrategy: If money was no object, what would you buy?
grimzor: A trip to moon and back I am huge sci-fi fan and deep unknown space out there interests me a lot.
