The 2009 WCOOP in figures

Since 2002 PokerStars invites players to the World Championship of Online Poker and thus apparently met the spirit of the times: more than 166 tournaments with a total of $1,500,000 in prize money have been gained ever since the premiere seven years ago.
Setting standards, $51.652.800 of the above mentioned figure were alone allotted to the 2009 WCOOP. A total of 43,973 players from 140 nations treated themselves to respectable 122,739 buy-ins. Besides, only players from 104 countries could eventually cash.
US dominating the WCOOP
Unchallenged, the US still is the most successful poker nation winning 25 bracelets, cashing 6,135 times, launching 148 final table placements with a total gain of $24,160,621. German players achieved 1,582 ITM standings, followed by Canada with a total of 1,133 ITM standings and UK with 1,054 cash standings. Concerning bracelets, the United Kingdom ranks in second place having won four tournaments followed by Germany winning three.
PokerStrategists rocking the rankings
PokerStrategist nolimitprojekt could secure for himself one of those bracelets winning event #34 and with it almost $100.000. Moreover, George Danzer won event #19 and Thomas 'Soterdelf' Osterfeld settled event #21 for himself.
One of the most successful players, the Frenchman Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier has been one of the most successful players winning event #38 and event #43. However, he does not lead the players' money-ranking, coming in seventh with a total of $504,705. The most profitable game, however, was played by the US American Jovial Gent winning $1.728.088 in total.
Best German in this section is PokerStrategist jektiss, who for his second rank behind ElkY in event #43 was awarded $193,620.
