In today's Daily Rewind we grind during child birth with Shaun Deeb and find out why Dutch Boyd owes 2+2 $60,000.

Deeb's distraction

Shaun Deeb became a farther for the first time recently, but it seems as though he might not fully appreciate the magnitude of his new arrival.

Always one to try and earn a few dollars in his spare time, Shaun was apparently trying to squeeze in a few hands of Open Face Chinese whilst his partner was in labour.

Although he admitted that he's probably the "worst husband of all" and was overjoyed with the birth of his new child, it wasn't long before he was thinking about providing for his child through by grinding.

Indeed, a few hours after the birth he was already planning his return to the virtual felt for the latest incarnation of SCOOP.

Boyd's $60,000 fine

It might have taken more than two years but 2+2 finally won its legal case against Dutch Boyd.

On top of being a winning poker pro "back in the day", Boyd was somewhat of an internet entrepreneur.

However, his purchase of the domain name twoplustwopoker.com isn't one that worked out in his favour.

At the time Boyd bought the URL 2+2 was an established brand in the poker industry and he tried to use this as leverage to make some money for himself.

The owners of 2+2, Mason Malmuth and David Sklansky, saw this as copyright infringement and took legal action against Boyd (although they did offer to settle out of court beforehand).

In 2012 a court ruled in favour of 2+2 and awarded the company damages, but it wasn't until a few days ago that another judge rejected Boyd's appeal and ordered him to pay $60,000 in fines.

Playing for glory

The second day of this year's SCOOP festival got underway yesterday and whilst some of the world's best were grinding for thousands of dollars, the game's amateurs were given a chance to experience an online festival for free.

PlaySCOOP is PokerStars' first ever play money event and, like it's real-money cousin, it consists of 45 MTTs at two buy-in levels.

The play money festival is being touted as a way for novice grinders to hone their skills and for American players (living in the US) to enjoy some tournament action.

Away from PlaySCOOP, SCOOP 2014 continues today with the likes of Ole 'olekonjole' Schemion, Eugene Katchalov and Marc-Andre Ladouceur all shooting for glory in Event #4 ($530 6-Max Rebuy).

The railbird community rejoiced last night as Gus Hansen recouped some of his online losses and topped the latest high stakes chart. After grinding through 493 hands the Dane managed to bank $347,366 to finish clear of 'SallyWoo' and Viktor Blom who each earned six-figure sums.

Falling to the largest defeat of the day after 391 hands was Kyle Ray. The US pro dropped $333,958 which was enough to put him at the top of the loss chart ahead of Phil Galfond and Dan Junglemandan Cates who lost $276,244 and $265,570 respectively.
