Phil Ivey's advice on playing pre-flop
In today's Daily Rewind we find out why you should fold A-K courtesy of Phil Ivey and "go social" with PokerStars.
Ivey's big fold
Phil Ivey's doesn't always give out poker advice, but when he does it's often simple yet effective.
Following another instalment of this year's Big One for One Drop, Ivey received a slew of tweets praising his play against David 'Doc' Sands.
In contrast to the Connar Drinan hand we brought you yesterday, Ivey manages to avoid a potentially fatal situation by folding A-K pre-flop to a simple four-bet.
Soon after the fold aired on TV, the US pro decided to offer a small insight into why he's capable of making a move like that:
"Saw a lot of tweets about me folding AK to AA pre-flop on the One Drop episode. Always consider situations and what opponents are capable of."
Which pro is a social powerhouse?
PokerStars is following the social media trend with a new tool it's calling the "Social Power Table".
Designed to rank pro players and show fans exactly who's hot and who's not, the league table takes into account each player's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube activity and gives them a "social score".
To generate a score, PokerStars has enlisted the help of FollowerWonk to create the following formula:
FollowerWonk's Social Authority rating + a "Like Rank" from Likealyzer.com + 10 for each social channel the user has (4 max) = a social score (out of 100).
Aside from showing which pros are trending and which aren't, the tool is a handy way of keeping tabs on your favourite poker personalities through a series of quick links.
Daniel and the homeless man
We all know that Daniel Negreanu has changed his outlook on life over the past few years, due in part to his attendance at ChoiceCenter.
Last night he found himself in a position to demonstrate just how much he's improved when he encountered a homeless man in Toronto.
After a night out with friends he decided to eat some (veggie) junk food on a park bench before being joined by two women.
Having spotted the sleeping man earlier, Negreanu made a point of giving him $10 in sight of the females before leaving.
Wanting to explain his thought process, Negreanu proceeded to write a semi-drunk blog about the incident.
Stating that his intention was to not only help the man, but inspire the two women to do good, Negreanu seems to be advising players to not always focus solely on poker but on helping people in a more positive way.
Question of the Day
A relatively quiet day at the virtual felt on Wednesday saw Asian amateur Chun Lei Zhou top the high stakes leaderboard with an $181,258 profit.
Following a series of $400,000+ winners of the last few days, Zhou's haul was enough to put him ahead of 'M.O.P' and 'ChaoRen160' on the latest daily rankings.
At the other end of the spectrum, Viktor Blom suffered a minor loss ($129,304 is small by his standards) to finish ahead of 'JesusLebtNOT' who dropped $128,998 over the course of 322 hands.
