Stephen Song has won the Global Poker Index (GPI) overall Player of the Year, as well as the Mid-Major Player of the Year, titles for 2022.

Song made a ton of final tables in 2022 and closed out the year by winning the record breaking WPT Prime Championship for $712,650.

Cherish Andrews won the Female GPI Player of the Year award. Both players will be able to collect their awards at the Global Poker Awards later on this year.

Spare a thought for Angela Jordinson who was leading both the Female GPI category and the Mid-Major category until late surges by Andrews and Song pipped her to the post in both leaderboards.

Over on the World Poker Tour's leaderboard Chad Eveslage is the 20th annual player of the year.

He won the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic in October for $1,043,300 and came third soon after in the WPT Rock'N'Roll Championship to secure his place in the history books.

“I’m honoured to add my name to the list of players who have won WPT Player of the Year,” Eveslage said. “2022 was an amazing run for me and to add POY to my WPT title just made the year even more special. I can’t wait to get back in action and try to defend this title.”
