Poker Stars $2/$4 Limit Hold'em - 4 players

Pre Flop: (1.5 SB) Hero is BB with K :club: A :diamond:
CO raises, 1 fold, SB 3-bets, Hero caps!, CO calls, SB calls

Flop: (12 SB) T :club: 9 :diamond: 9 :club: (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, CO calls, SB raises, Hero calls, CO calls

Turn: (9 BB) T :diamond: (3 players)
SB bets, Hero raises, CO folds, SB 3-bets, Hero folds

Hi Guys,

CO is a kind of passive fishy, SB is a LAGTAG regular. I'm gonna leave my thought process for you to figure it out. What do you think?:)

Thanks in advance,
Madi

I don't think that you have any Tx/9x in your preflop capping range, only quads which is just 2 combos. Therefore your turnraise would look quite suspicious for me if I was SB and I wouldn't ever fold JJ-KK or Ax. The only hands you'll get to fold are worse than yours, weak pocket pairs, maybe KQ, KJ.

So your turn raise is for value, which I think isn't that bad to gain bets from KJ-QJ type of hands and flushdraws and to kick CO from straightdraws who doesn't know that you don't have full houses in your range.

But if the SB is smart he might 3bet QJ or a flushdraw... well he probably isn't making that play so I don't mind raise/folding for protection against CO.

Do not really like it

You're waay over-repping your hand and you pretty much have the nut-bluffcatcher.

Turning it into a bluff and then folding doesn't really sit THAT well with me.

If you wanted to protect your hand you could have done it on the flop which might not actually be a bad line given you could still easily be ahead of SB and you give the CO a nasty decision with what could be 7 outs vs you.

Overall if you're after protecting your hand I'd do so on the flop here.

The only way I can see this being good is if you thing the SB raise a chop on the flop and then fold it on the turn.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for your answers, it's starting to get a really good conversation, and I hope I can pick your minds a little bit more.:)

Boomer: my initial plan was to call down and not to raise any turn for protection. I'd call down most of the time (like on a 2 of purple horseshoes), since raise/calling is spew and raise/folding is not possible since I fold reasonable equity. However, I feel I won't ever get bluff3bet here on the T, and I'm sure hands that I have equity against won't 3bet also (like KK-JJ), so if I get 3bet I literally have 0% equity. (It may not be true if the opponent is not a decent regular who I trust.) So because I'd call down here basically on every river card, I feel 2 bets are going in either way, and I win more when I close out possible 7 outs of CO than calling and letting him draw. To be honest, I wouldn't raise any other turn card for protection, just this one, because I feel I'm able to realize my equity with the raise too close to 100% of the time.

Also I don't really get the idea of 3betting the flop for protection. I may fold out 3 outters, but never ever a 7 outter, that will also have the equity to call on the turn. Also let's assume CO and SB calls my 3bet. What do I do on the turn? Do I bet in no man's land or do I check and turn my hand face up? I like neither, I think I can't ever accomplish anything on the turn (maybe a free card, if CO folds, but I'm gonna be very transparent then - and also I think I can't fold the river, since SB may have draws). So in absolute position I may see the reason, since in such a big pot transparency <<< equity realization, but in this position I kind of feel that I have no good, or even viable options on the turn if I 3bet the flop. Also, I may need to pay off a c/r on the turn, but that's gonna be rare.

So once again the point: I'd raise this and only this card for kind of protection/free SD, and call down on any other (except an A or a K LDO), since I feel I'll never ever get 3bet by a hand that doesn't have me drawing dead, and I think the 2 bets till 'showdown' will go in better, if I may be able to fold out a 7 outter from CO.

What do you think? Still looks spewy? (Maybe it is.:P)

I also dont like your raise on the turn , like boomer said ur folding the nut-bluffcatcher in a big pot versus what i presume is a thinking lagtag .

Also disagree with some of your points like:

However, I feel I won't ever get bluff3bet here on the T, and I'm sure hands that I have equity against won't 3bet also (like KK-JJ), so if I get 3bet I literally have 0% equity.

U can turn this around and look at it from his view. What i mean is that are u really first just calling JJ+ on the drawy flop 3 way and not 3 betting them and secondly are u really gonna raise/C this turn with that range(JJ+) .
If he saw u making tough folds before i can just see him putting 1 bet more in with KQs maybe QJs or even JJ/AQs if he thinks he can get u off a better hand.

So because I'd call down here basically on every river card, I feel 2 bets are going in either way, and I win more when I close out possible 7 outs of CO than calling and letting him draw.

But u dont consider he might barrel the river again when he misses and u loose win/same or even less because if u are calling any river card he might donk some % of the time if he hits. Also some small chance he might show you some lower pocketpair/random screwplay turned into a hopeless bluff and u dont really wanna fold that out. Also u see a showdown in a big pot with calling.

Another point i forgot to mention about the turn in favour of calling - if CO has a slowplayed 9x or Tx with just calling u will only loose 1 bet if u fold after his raise versus raise folding for 2 BB just to know ur beat
And also he will fold alot of his flush draws and unpaired hands on that paired turn with that action in front of him.

Let him bluff. Don't push him out with small Pockets.
