I'm not exactly sure that this will answer your question, but...
Let's say that on the flop you have a nut flush draw: You hold A♦:K♦: and the board is 9♦:5♠:2♦:
You can see 4 
so you know that there are 9 left
You can see 5 cards, so there are 47 unknowns.
The chances of flopping a heart on the turn are therefore 9/47 or 19.1%.
Put another way, we have 9 positive outcomes, and 38 not-so-good outcomes so the odds are 4.2:1 against
If you don't get a heart on the turn, then there are only 46 cards left, but still 9 hearts, so the chances of hitting your heart OTR are 9/46 or 19.5%
The odds are therefore 37:9 or 4.1:1 against.
Now, let's back up to the flop, you have two chances to hit, so the chances are the chances of each street added together: 19.1% + 19.5% is 38.6%
if 38.6% of the outcomes are good, then 61.4% are bad, so the converting "chances" to "odds" it is 61.4:38.6 or 1.59:1, which is 2:1 rounded off

Thanks for the quiz, it was very helpful as I'm also new to poker.
I am a bit confused by question 12. We have Jd Td on a flop of Ad 7d 2h and facing a bet of $8 into a pot of $16 so we have pot odds of 3:1 which is 25% (I understand it better with percentages). Using the rough rule of 4, we have 9 outs with a flush draw and therefore roughly 36% equity. To me, this makes it an easy call but the answer given says:
"In this example, you are offered $24 ($16 + $8) for $8, which is 3:1.
Thus the pot odds are lower than the needed odds of 4:1. Therefore you can not call correctly. Answer b) is correct."
Please can someone explain this to me?

I had a look at the question.
Assuming our 9 outs are clean outs, and only those 9 outs matter the odds re 38:9 or 4.2:1
You're only getting 3:1 so by straight pot odds, it is a fold.
The question doesn't take the following into consideration:
You may get paid off if you hit (so-called implied odds) which makes the call viable
You may be facing a better flush if it hits.
If you call, and the turn makes your equity lower (if the board pairs for instance) your call is wasted.
I think that the question was just looking at the hand in the strict sense

Thanks for the quick reply and the explanation. If the question is just looking at the hand in the strict sense of whether or not I will hit on the turn, then yes I agree that it would be a fold so that has cleared up my confusion thanks!
It's interesting though because if that $8 bet from the villain put them all-in then, then I think you have enough equity to call profitably, even if you put them on a range that currently has you beat - although that is not the question asked.
