Opponent had a VPIP of about 80 -- 55 hands though.

Pacific Poker - $0.10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: $9.85
SB: $8.03
BB: $10.50
Hero (UTG): $11.70
CO: $13.74

SB posts SB $0.05, BB posts BB $0.10

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.15) Hero has Q♥:T♠:

Hero raises to $0.25, fold, fold, SB calls $0.20, fold

Flop: ($0.60, 2 players) J♠:9♥:4♣:
SB bets $0.20, Hero raises to $0.50, SB calls $0.30

Turn: ($1.60, 2 players) 2♠:
SB checks, Hero bets $0.80, SB calls $0.80

River: ($3.20, 2 players) 5♥:
SB checks, Hero ??? if bet, how big?

I think that this is a good bluff spot, since I raised UTG which (should) signal a strong hand.
Although the turn and river make a straight, such a straight is unlikely.

I think we raise flop larger, we are giving villain 4:1 on a call, I think easy for him to realize his equity. As played I think on the river we might be asking ourselves what do we need to bet to get villain off a Jack, in this scenario I might bet something stupid like $4.00 into the $3.20 to polarize.

The biggest problem in this hand is as well that we deal with a fishy villain based on the huge VPIP. That would be a reason to play it safe in position and call the flop to keep the pot under control with the draw. It's not to likely you get villain of the hand with a raise and on later streets as well. Except if villain was drawing as well.

I don't think we need to polorize our range against a villain like that and if you want to bluff a half pot will work as well as a big bet, but most of the time i would give up against a loose passive fish.

This is the time I like to call a flop a lot actually here, you are getting good odds, you don't give any info and you have position so you can get lot of info based on his turn move what to do. I think if he donks flop here, he mostly has Jx or 9x, and he is not folding them. So I would call flop and decide on turn.

Half pot on the river would fold a good jack? Half pot on the river in theory villain would need to defend 67% of his range.

Fishy villain makes for a tricky river, I like the bet sizing on flop, I think the turn i want to go a little bigger more like 2/3 to pot, 2 reasons, one is pressures villain and 2nd that if we hit card we want to be able to get paid off on river with a BIG BET if villain is a station and willing to call.

As for river bluff- we need to keep in mind the MORE WE BET the less value hands we need bluffs GO UP... If we bet pot we give a 2 to 1 villain call odds, and we need are Value range to be about 67% and are bluffs to be about 33% is we bet 2x pot are bluffs go to 40%...

for a simple guide mine when speaking of bluffs
Flop: 1 value hand to 2 bluffs (semi bluffs)
Turn: 1 value hand to 1 bluff (semi bluff)
River: 2 value hand to 1 bluff dependent on Sizing but within reason.

So ALL that being said.... River what are your value hands played like this, AJ few combos, JJ, 99.. so you have a bunch of value hands, so your hand fits the BLUFF ratio. Now villain if he made ANY J pair or 9 pair do you think you can get villain to fold them being a rec...Me personally if I think I have any chance of getting someone to fold and my ratio is okay, I am smashing in the chips. You i believe are sitting on 100BB at this moment I would be betting ON river about 1.5x to 2x.. SO $5-$6 --.. Sometimes NO guts no Glory.. and it will hurt when it doesnt work but will feel like a crusher when it works..

I doubt any sizing is going to make vpip 80 guy to fold decent Jx often enough. I would personally also just call flop and go from there. Often these guys will give nice value anyway in case we hit. But getting them to fold is tough which means we want to avoid making big bluffs.

Player like this is usually not positionally aware which means he is not going to think much of your position to open raise. Or necessarily your range at all.

As played versus this player in river I would just check. You can still beat some of weaker straight draws.
