We went in costume to the opening of the Lord of the Rings movies and the 3 Hobbit movies.
When the first Hobbit movie opened Galadriel and I drove 750 km to Creston to surprise my sister-in-law who runs the theatre there.

We had a blast -- we stood at the head of the line checking tickets as people came in.

We had a blast!

I made most of my living in IT for 30 years, so I really shouldn't complain.

When I first started streaming, my computer would randomly lock up -- no mouse response, no keyboard response, no nuttin'
On investigation (using Open Hardware Monitor) I discovered that my computer was overheating. We solved that problem by cleaning all the dust out of the CPU's cooling fan, the case fans, and power supply fans.

Even after that, temperatures ran as high as 80C, which causes the CPU to reduce it's speed (thermal throttling). Reducing CPU speed while trying to stream results in dropped frames -- al lot of dropped frames. I got around this problem by purchasing a 2nd-hand high-end video card. Now the CPU no longer needed to render the frames for the stream -- that was all done by the video card.

This helped a lot.

Now comes the real fun.
I installed a new Solid-State drive to hand my PT4 and fpdb databases. The thinking here is that with two database engines running -- postgres for PT4 and MySQL for fpdb -- the CPU had more load then necessary when using the same drive as Windows.

I installed the drive in one of the 3 available SATA slots. Strangely, it registered with Windows as drive 0.
I was surprised, because the system disk is usually drive 0. I didn't think it mattered though, and the databases did work faster, and the CPU load did drop.

The downside is that occasionally the system failed to boot -- no clue why. I thought that the new drive might be flakey, because if I removed it, the system would boot. Hmmmm

I installed it into one of the other vacant SATA connections, and it worked fine until once again it failed to boot.
Even the BIOS did not recognize the drive -- weird.

I created full backups using EaseUS Todo Backup Software and refreshed the backups each night. I plugged the new drive back into the same SATA connection that it first failed in. It worked.

I ran like that until last Saturday, when halfway through my session my computer locked up solid.
On my attempt to reboot, I got a message saying that a particular file was missing or corrupt.

I tried to restore from backup -- it failed, because EaseUS was identifying my database drive as the system drive.
I removed the database drive, re-positioned the SATA cables so my system disk was in the lowest-numbered position. and tried the restore once more. It worked.

I then re-installed my database drive, and re-booted, and it has been running fine since.
It worked well through my stream today, even with rather high CPU loads.

Is all well?
I've no idea -- but we'll keep our backups current, and press on.

This reminds me of my first lesson on advanced computing many moons ago.
We walked in to the lesson to find the following sentence graffitied on the board
"Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong - Murphy's law - Aka Sod law!"
Something that haunts me to this day.
My deepest sympathy Vorpal and if anyone can beat Sod law it is you!

Any specific Bios Message or error code ?
Did you clean dust using a air compressor ? and also on the Sata Links cables ?
Disconnect all hard drives and just try the one you have troubles with to see how it goes ... Keep on the minimum DDR or Ram you have on ...
Is your motherboard one of the last Asus ? And if so is your bios firmware up to date ?

Years ago I had a computer that would not power on. I removed the lid, and checked that everything was connected solidly.
While the lid was off, I hit the power switch, and everything worked fine, so I put the case cover back on, and re-tested - still fine.
I then installed the case screws.

The power switch failed to work. I removed the case screws, but left the lid on, and again the power switch worked.

I never did figure out what the matter was -- I just used the computer for several more years with the case screws out. I suspect that somehow the case screws put some stress on a connection in the power supply.

From that experience I derived Vorpal's Law: "Installing the case screws causes the unit to fail".

My computer worked fine yesterday -- even under fairly heavy load. However, at the end of the day, I initiated a backup which failed after an hour or so. I guess we're still not out of the woods.

Oh dear... reminds me of the time when I migrated from 888 to Stars and wanted to play one last $0.40 tourney, only to land in a $100 one because my mouse slipped or something like that. Not sure what percentage of my BR I lost on that, but it might have been around a quarter as well, maybe a third. And back then, this was actually my only poker bankroll.

This would have made some exciting streaming material, though.

After a terrible showing on stream, this hand saved the day.

While playing the daily $3.30 NL 2-7 Single Draw PKO I noticed that there was a table of NL 25 2-7 Single-Draw cash going.
I joined it, and had some ups and downs. After I busted out of the tournament 2 off the money, I stopped the stream, but continued to play the cash table intending to quit when I got my next chest.

I started to run rather well, and everyone at the cash table left except for one rather loose, rather aggro player.
Toward the end of the heads-up cash session, he started to 3-Bet shove

So I returned the favour...

I know that very well, my session saver yesterday was a 2nd place in an MTT, besides I ran mostly bad, started to improve. Such session savers buffer the frustration coming up ♠_thumbsup:

I know poker is for the long run but sometimes you need such little successes just for your soul. ♠_biggrin:

I kinda didn't feel like streaming today, and at the start I had no viewers, and was feeling a bit discouraged, but I opened a few tables, and started to run good. I can live with that.

I did not cash in either of the PLO8 tournaments, but the cash game saw me up 1.5 stacks -- I can now definitely buy a lottery ticket this week using OPM[1]

It went from good to better when I won a $0.55 "On-Demand" tournament
To top it off, I busted the $3.30 NL 5-Card Draw tournament -- but I did win 21 bucks playing FL $0.50/$1 5-Card Draw, so who cares?

Oh -- and best of all I finally cashed a Bounty Hunter on stream. Now if only I had more NLHE skillz

And finally...
I really want to incorporate "Equitas evanescit pepedi quasi in vento" into my sig, but I would really hate to get rid of the quote I already have.
