In keeping with the "Recurrent" part, I had an episode last Wednesday, and the Dr is on vacation.
So I'm toughing it out until tomorrow when I will finally get to see him (I hope).
I've been able to sleep, thanks to some 10-year old Percocet I had put aside after a previous episode. I didn't have much hope it would even work. Still worked.
The pain comes and goes throughout the day, so I've been able to play only a little poker, and answer only a few forum posts.

In fact most meds are supposed to keep working way after their end date (in decent conditions), the date is just a warranty to avoid lawsuits etc. And they never turn into something unhealthy, the only risk is that they'd become less efficient. There have been experiments with military stocks left unused for decades and researchers have been rather surprised to find most were still working quite well.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been through such trouble, VS. I've never even felt 1% of your pain: bursting into tears occasionally is nowhere near as tough as the daily burning.
I'm glad that Percocet has helped you. You've done a great job of keeping it aside (I can attest to the efficiency of expired drugs too). Think of this episode as an opportunity that the universe has given you to reassure that you can tough it out on your own, though of course, you need to discuss with the Dr which extra precautions you should take to be able to manage even better whenever he's on leave.
Coincidentally, Jocko Willink posted a really strong excerpt yesterday; I'm not always up to date with him, but this one struck a chord.

About the spectrum of expectations and hopes, I think that there is no ideal spot. The ideal outcome would be realistic understanding of the situation. There are situations where we understand that odds for making it are slim (and we can hope or dream about it at the same time), and there are situations where we understand that our skill is so good that it's almost automatic for us to handle it. And then there are situations where we are not sure, but we have to make estimations and base our decision to those. Then the key to optimal outcome is if we can reflect our decision making and understand that no matter what the outcome of those decisions will be, we made the optimal decision based on the information and situation we had.
For poker player life becomes a run of EV. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time.
Like we found a bedbug from our house today. Just one, and my fiancé went nuts and in panic. I thought that the bedbug has been found, so there is no reason to worry about "what if...?" situations. I went to check the furniture and didn't found any marks of them. My fiancé was still going crazy and just kept worrying "what do we do now? What if there are more of them? I can't sleep anymore!". I told her that I will inform the condominium and buy few bedbug traps to see if there are more or not. And if there will be more of them, we order exterminator. So it was like in poker. Flop was dealt, and it looked a bit bad. But it has happened and I have no control over it, so the focus is into making good decisions from there on. She wondered how could I be so calm. I tried to explain that even if went crazy too, the situation would not change. There would be as many or few bedbugs in our house, no matter how I react. But if I go crazy too I would probably make bad decisions and the situation in the future would be worse than with good decisions. So instead of past if focus on the future. She kept going crazy and I went to eat my dinner.

We had cockroaches in our building once, they were everywhere!
We finally got rid of them but even so, when we next moved we threw away everything that we couldn't open up and check for egg cases!

I thought it unlikely that pocket 3s, A9 or A3 would play pre-flop like this, which pretty much leaves QQ+ and AQ+ in a pre-flop 3-betting range.
This is the first time I've ever played this player.
It is clear OTF that he has a strong hand -- or thinks he has.

Lol weird indeed. I'd expect to fall against QQ+ really often here, that's why JJ is never a raise. Not to mention that by raising one of the only hand quite easy to call down you are caping yourself hard. What can you call several streets with then ?

How would you play AA,KK in shoes of your opponent then? To me that looks like he tried to represent that, maybe understanding that your range shouldn't have 99 or 3 almost ever. So your small raise worked as an inducement there.
