nice graph!

I play on iPoker also and just moved up to NL100 (all currencies) and I find it as lose as NL50 was.. The vast majority of regs are just nits that let you play with fish whenever you want. Although, I have just small samplesize (3k hands or so), I find it very similar on both limits.

btw: I had sweat session with kevvu yesterday - 4 tables for 1.5hrs (@6pm) on Everest and there was just 1 solid reg (according to stats)... All the rest were just regfish, unbalanced nits or just fish - there're A LOT of dead money there ^^

+430$ day, woohoo! Total profit at 1910$! I'll probably wait till I hit 50k hands to post the graph.

Just finished a short 5-6 table NL100$ session, which was a little... strange. I got AA at least 5 times, and KK at least 3-4 times, but just won the blinds with them. On the other hand, I won an all-in for stacks with TPTK vs combodraw, and stacked a fish with QQ vs QJ on QT8 8 8. A little unusual, but I'll take any form of boomswitch gladly
Traffic was really low since it was 5am GMT, but the upside is that everyone is tired/drunk and plays really badly at those hours :)

That's interesting. How many tables do you play? Do you have a table scanner? I don't really want to spend 65$ on a scanner quite yet, so I obviously have a little more trouble finding fish. Also, I'm guessing the time of day would have a lot of impact. Next time I play NL100 I'll try to play early in the day (early evening in Europe) to have maximum traffic. I could also mix in some NL100eur tables I guess, since I have enough BR for shots, at least.

sounds juicy! Everest is very popular in Switzerland and France (as far as I can tell), so I have no trouble imagining the kind of fish there would be there :f_cool:
I might give it a shot, but I'm not crazy about playing several sites with VIP systems, since you usually have to put in a lot of hands to get good RB equivalent, and it's obv harder to do on several sites at once... in any case, I'll finish my deposit bonus on ipoker, then decide what to do.

4-6 but mixing up with NL50, so about 3-4 NL100sh..
Why spending money on table scanner btw? TableScan Turbo is for free and is much better than EyePoker (I have both ^^)

That's why I'm not playing there also.. According to what I've heard, their VIP system is not good at all either, but clearing the first deposit only could be an option imo.

In other news...

I think it's safe to say my upswing is over

I started playing a little NL100, at all currencies (USD/EUR/GBP) to get enough good tables. It went good at first, but then I ran into a few setups and lost some flips, losing me 3 or 4 buy-ins (last 3 sessions in the pic below). So after my -250$ session last night, I decided I would grind back all those moniez at NL50 eur/gbp, starting with 4000 hands today.

So, in good race-back-to-breakeven fashion, I started a session at 10:50am or so and.. finished over 4 hours later, with 3900 hands ^^. Longest session I've ever played, I think (that's the 2nd line in the pic below, btw. Sick winrate, I know).

Anyway, I continued to play, and all those hands that held up every single tiem in the last few thousand hands.. stopped holding up. Just some standard run-bad really. I actually didn't tilt at all, so i was able to put in almost 6500 hands today.

I'm going to continue to grind NL50 till I get back to 2k profit (i.e, the tip of the graph), then I'll switch back up to Nl100 with the same ~3BI stop-loss.

Goal for tomorrow: 5k hands!

And if I want to manage that, I had better get some sleep. I'll post a more complete update next time, so stay tuned!

ASDFSHESJFAHE.

It's not entirely clear since it's different limits and whatnot, but the swings are more or less: -14BI, +12, -18, +40, -15. Fun times _biggrin:
I kinda wish I won at non-sd so I'd have a slightly less swongy style, but I guess that short of that, I'll just have to continue putting in crazy volume :f_eek:

I didn't quite reach my goal for the day, having only put in 4.5k hands (mostly cause I didn't get much sleep). I'll try again tomorrow, and go for 5-6k hands. However, I'll try to stick to 10 tables max, since the new ipoker software sucks for cascading tables, and I can't tile them since I'm on my 12" laptop for another week (then it's back to triple 24" displays...*drools* :))

same as yesterday -- me sleepy, real update later. wish me luck on another 41BI upswing for tomorrow =P

Triple 24''?! Holy Sicko Set up batman!

Are you playing SH or FR?

mwahaha, I'll post before/after pics when I get back home

I'm playing only SH now, though when I was at NL200 I liked to play a little HU, and also open FR tables (most FR regs don't play SH, so I got to play heads-up and short-handed with fish for a while before the tables filled up, much moniez there)

And now, ladies and gentleman, I bring you a special feature:

Inside the mind of a micro-stakes grinder!

(HH wouldn't convert)
iPoker NL50$, 6 players

Hero: $56.85
BU: $71.64
SB: $143.89

Hero is MP with A♥ A♠

UTG folds, Hero raises to $1.75, fold, BU calls, SB calls, fold.

Flop ($5.75)
J♦ 5♥ 3♣

SB checks, Hero bets $4.00, BU calls, SB raises to $15.75.

Hmmm, SB check/raises in a 3-way pot, but he's a massive fish, so he doesn't have to have a good hand here. I'll call and re-evaluate the turn.

Hero calls, BU calls.

Turn ($52.25)
2♠

SB bets $52.25

Welp, there's a decent chance that this guy just has top pair, or even a weirdly played QQ, etc. BU definitely has 33/55/JJ though. He's an ABC reg, and there's no way he would've continued on the flop after a c/r and my call without at least 2 pair (and J5/J3/53 are never in his range). Good thing I'm not on tilt despite losing a lot, cause if I were, I definitely would've called!

Hero folds, BU raises all-in to $54.39, SB calls.

BU shows 3♥ 3♠, SB shows J♣ 5♦ . Hero smiles to himself.

River ($161.03)

A♣

That is all. Now Ima watch an episode of the 4400, cause I've already played two sessions of 2 and 4 hours respectively, for 5k hands. (Anytime, boomswitch!)

Thanks vonki!

~~

I'm leaving for Switzerland on Monday (arriving Tuesday evening, yay long flights), and I've got quite a bit of packing etc to do, so this may be the last update from Jackson.

So, after my 16BI downswing (actually 19BI at it's lowest), it's just been up-down-up-down no more than 3 or 4 buy-ins. It really got to me the other day when I played a 4.5h session that included losing 3 stacks with AA, winning and losing a couple here and there, and finishing down 3 stacks or so + feeling really drained from the long session. I think it may be more the long hours than the results that tilt me though (I say tilt but I didn't really feel angry, just weary really).
That's about 20k hands breakeven -- which isn't much, granted, but to be honest I prefer having big swings (even if it's a downer) to this. I guess it's more.. interesting (does that make me SM? :f_eek:).

Anyhoo, despite 1.1k in bonuses, plus another 800 at least from FPPs, I'm quite far from my goal, which means I'll be putting in a few hands when I get home. The ultimate goal of grinding here was to have a solid bankroll by the beginning May, where things will get a lot more interesting around here . Nothing's 100% sure yet, but it's shaping up to be something along the lines of 2 months, 30k... I'll post more details soon, so stay tuned :f_cool:

Aside from that, my computer has been crashing unusually often, so rather than risk losing moniez grinding these last two days, I'll get a head-start on my other April goals -- namely, listening to the Eightfold Path to Poker Enlightenment, and learning SnG theory (+ ofc make the most of the warm weather here :))

I think I wanted to talk about a few other things, but I'm too tired for my memory to function correctly, so.. see you soon !

//edit: Oh, I remember now! I'M DIAMOND AGAIN :diamond:

that is all

No one told you silver is the new diamond? It's quite hard to maintain silver status over the course of a few months !!!

Swiss is stuck in the US!

What with the Icelandic economy's last request to have its ashes spread over Europe, I got a text the other day informing me that my flight from Denver to Geneva, supposed to leave in 2h, had been cancelled. British Airways would re-schedule another flight for free, but the earliest possible one was on the 26th of April... A week in Denver? Kill me now!

So, I decided to take matters into my own hands, and follow the good old adage below:

When life gives you a T-Rex, go ninja-kick it in the head!"

So I braced myself, endured 2h20 (true story) of BA's retardedly annoying hold music before getting through to support. They confirmed that my flight was cancelled, and that the first available replacement from Denver was on the 26th.
That obviously wouldn't do, so, instead of that, I got them to change my flight to leave from JFK on the 28th, for free!

Thus, I rectify the title of this post:

Swiss is going to New York for a week!
woohoo :f_p:

I got a pretty cheap (250$, i.e less than what the hotel would cost) flight to NYC, which leaves at 1am (it's 7pm, as I'm typing this, sitting on the floor of a very empty airport), and I'll stay with a friend who's studying in NY atm. (translation: college parties for me! weee). Plus, the insurance *should* cover the costs :f_grin:
If I have 100$ dollars to spare, I might even get to go to Montreal! (yay, French Canadians in their natural element! \o/)

This is awesome. I had been planning to go to NYC after Jackson for a while, but I cancelled for lack of moniez. Looks like that volcano was better luck than I thought!

All right guys (and girls), I'll be sure to provide you with some pictures of the big city very soon!

@Erp: get your ass back to diamond now! We have a party to go to in July! =P

oh, small update: Daphunk found out that despite the email and SMS alert, and what they told me on the phone, the flight has not been cancelled, it's just been delayed 7 hours... meh, who cares, I get to go to NY for almost nothing (and he goes home almost on schedule)

Life back in England is boring. Kind of wishing the flight home really had been cancelled then I would have had chance to enjoy Denver's famed 3 to 1 Women : Men ratio. From what I was told its actually a cool town.

Ended up landing in Heathrow at 11pm rather than the scheduled 12:30pm arrival. Whatever, they had someone giving out free chocolate in the terminal which was nice I guess.

Enjoy your flight home tomorrow Mr Swiss!

oh hi blog, long time no see!

New York.was.AWESOME. It was pretty much like in the movies: tiny college dorm with 2 people, apparently almost no studying involved (my friend went to 2 lessons in 8 days, while I was there), and more importantly, lots of beer pong and weed
The actual city is great too, but the combination of shitty weather, and getting up at 2pm every day meant I didn't really visit much ^^ On the bright side, it means I have lots of stuff to do when I go back -- which I will do as soon as possible. Plus clothes and stuff are really really cheap (like, a quarter of the price we pay over here), so that alone would pay for the plane ticket :)

Here are a couple more pictures btw:

M&M's store :) Just out of frame, the gigantic columns filled with every colour of M&M imaginable (except Octarine)

Me in front of the Apple store, just before I got banned for repeatedly beating an employee with an iPad (turns out it's useful for something after all).

Anyway, I've been back for three weeks already, which I pretty much spent either hanging out with friends, re-arranging/tidying my room (which it turns out my mum and brother re-painted while I was gone :)), and playing live NL1k and 2k in Montreux (staked).

I actually played my first hand of online pokers since the US only a few days ago when TwiceT arrived (hence the lack of updates). Didn't really play much though, since I'm ill (yeah, in mid-May, wtf is this weather)

I've also changed my mind about this summer. Rather than trying to grind full-time for 2 months or so and get an apartment as soon as possible, I'll stay here at my mum's a couple months longer, so I can have more time to grind, and more importantly, have more time and money to take some holidays, as I'd love to see a lot of Europe this summer. Skydiving would be nice too, if I can pay for the training ^^

So I'm pretty much giving myself until end of August or so before moving out, since I start university on September 21st. Until then, I'll probably be playing live whenever possible, or re-building my bankroll online (or drinking, or going to one of many festivals this summer, or generally procrastinating). Stay tuned!

Mini-update!

I've played about 15k hands since I got home. For the first half of those, I grinded 12 tables or so, but I was losing such an absurd amount at non-showdown that I decided it would be best to stick to 6-tabling, at least for a while. I don't have much of a sample size, but imo it's enough to draw approximate conclusions from the red line.

Using the highly scientific method pictured below, I compared the before/after non-sd results, and it seems there's a difference of between 200 and 300$ in this sample. That's about a 5-8bb/100 difference between 6- and 12-tabling! Needless to say, I'll stay away from grinding for a bit :)

I kinda like switching to a more bluffy style anyway. On top of being generally more fun to play, I think it may be more profitable than the alternative, on iPoker. The reason being, there are no timebanks, so opponents only have 10-15secs to think about tough calls. And the longer someone has, the more likely they are to call. So I'm pretty sure bluffs are on average more profitable, whereas thin valuebets will simply win the pot.
Or maybe it's just my imagination. (Perhaps someone who plays on iPoker as well as another site can confirm?)

Precise stats analysis

The other reason I wanted to make this quick update is that my stake (yes, I'm staked for NL50. I'm *that* broke.) will be over in 1-2 days, which means that I'll be mostly playing live (staked, too, but for nl1k and 2k), so it'll probably be a while before I update again, depending on how fast I can get a decent bankroll online again.
On the bright side, I have about $1000 worth of FPPs on Titan, as well as a 1000% (yep ) up to $1k deposit bonus for next month. Conditions are something like, I deposit this month, and I get 10x the amount in bonuses, up to 1k, on the 2nd of June -- if I remember correctly. If that's the case, then I expect to be playing online again in roughly 2 weeks. til then!
