Cheer up Daniel Colman

One Drop continues to command a lot of mainstream attention, and by now you must have seen this 'reaction' video of Daniel Colman winning the second biggest prize in poker history:
Poor guy.
I was on holiday during One Drop so I missed the whole story of Colman refusing interviews and speaking out against the game. It does make me wonder if his reaction was premeditated to appear like winning $15 million was mundane to him, or if he genuinely had a moment of clarity where he didn't think poker was all that great.
I've spent years working with mental game coach Jared Tendler and one thing I have learned is that it is human nature not to enjoy these great moments as much as we should. There is a part of us that almost expects good things to happen when we want them so much, so when they actually do, it just feels 'usual' (Conversely, this is why the world feels so unfair when we don't get what we want).
However, the most striking thing for me about this video, and the situation in general, is the stark contrast between Colman and Daniel Negreanu. To someone who doesn't understand poker, you would almost expect them to think KidPoker won it, he seems a lot happier in his disappointment for second place than Colman does for the $15 million and the title.
Negreanu divides opinion for what he says off the table, but I don't think anyone can deny that he conducts himself in the best possible way at the table. He was fun till the end, he took his beat like a champ and the first thing he did was congratulate the winner.
Colman has certainly made for an interesting story this year, but I think the Poker Gods probably got this one wrong.
