Community Weekly Round-Up: the basics, underpants man and my WSOPE Dream Team
Barry Carter looks forward to another big week at PokerStrategy.com and shares the reasons behind his own Fantastic Five team for the WSOPE.

Meanwhile last week I really started to take an interest in poker as a spectator. This is both because there is a huge focus on European Poker this month and also because of our new Fantastic Five promotion.
I've always enjoyed the act of betting on other poker players' results. There was once (briefly) a time when it actually was fun to bet on them at sportsbooks, because a lot of the bookmakers did not know the real names of online pros and gave silly odds on who they thought were unknown players. Sadly the tide turned the other way and I once remember seeing Phil Ivey, I kid you not, priced at 8/1 to win the Main Event outright.
My Fantastic Five Team consists of Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Selbst, Stephen O'Dwyer, Ole Schemion, Dominik Nitsche and in reserve Jake Cody and Manig Loeser.
I picked Negreanu because he is on fire at the moment and more importantly will want to lock up the Player of the Year title. I picked Selbst because I thought she was well priced and has good form both in France and in PLO events. O'Dwyer, Schemion and Nistche I thought were all ridiculously underpriced so I thought they were bargains that meant I could afford substitutes.
I'm not sure why I am so excited about it, I can't get a status upgrade and I presume I also won't be allowed any money if I win either, being a member of staff. I guess I do have some of this 'pride' thing after all.
Threads of the week

We all have too much pride as poker players, and I bet all of us have managed to go several years without knowing at least one core concept, because after we established ourself we were too embarrassed to ask.
I remember I once had an EPT champion confide in me that he didn't actually know what fold equity was. I remember personally I went years without really understanding value betting before I got a coach.
So I am really glad we have started The Basics - it's a great place where our members can ask these questions without feeling silly.
For starting that thread, Blog of the week goes to . One Bet At A Time is a fun read for people who like Limit Hold'em, football and Magic the Gathering (I only like one of those three things myself).
