First PokerStrategy Community Round-Up

Do you want to know what happens in the PokerStrategy community but you have little time to check the forums? Every week, EagleStar88 will bring you the most important happenings so that you can still be in touch with our community.

PokerStrategy CommunityOur Community Round-up is your weekly source for all that happens inside the PokerStrategy forums. If you missed something last week and you still want to be in touch with our community, here are some of the most important posts. This is the first of many community-related projects we will begin and eaglestar88 is in charge of this one.

poker blog of the week

For
this, the first in our series of “Poker Blog of the week”, we have
chosen one of the most popular blogs in recent history: “
Gerv’s
Galaxy during Valentines: SSS NL100
”.

Resident
coach gerv first set off into his Galaxy back in July last year and
has since notched up over 19,000 views and an excess of 500 posts.

Gerv
is a short stack specialist and is currently grinding Advanced Short
Stack Strategy at NL100 level. The majority of new players start off
with the Basic Short Stack Strategy (SSS) and whilst Gerv is playing
the advanced variant (AdvSSS) and at a much higher level, beginners
will be still be able to closely associate with the many swings, wins
& bad beats that are encountered along this blog’s journey.

The
blog makes good use of a variety of statistics, charts, pictures,
sample hands and in depth commentary, not to mention a good old sense
of humour and is a fascinating read.

Singled
out this week in particular is Gerv’s explanation of what he
includes in his HUD (Heads Up Display), a topic that is all too often
confusing to the poker beginner.

sample hand of the week

The
following hand caught our eye this week, not just because of the
final outcome, but because of Waiboy’s observations which as he
readily admits, in the heat of the moment whilst multi-tasking, are
easily missed.

As waiboy said:

I
was opening a new table and showing down another hand... I had
mentally assigned the hand to a call down, because who expects to hit
runner, runner gutshot straight flush?!

When
you play thousands upon thousands of hands, it’s inevitable that 1
or 2 may slip underneath the radar, and it’s easy to be affected
mentally by a missed opportunity, but big respect to Waiboy for
calmly noting the event & then moving straight on to deal with
the next hand. Nice hand sir, here’s hoping your current hot streak
continues to run & run.
