Mindful Grinding with CrazyMonete
We chat to the Spanish SpinLegends Head Coach about meditation, what your ratio of study vs grinding should be, and the best ways to learn.

What does a typical week look like for you at SpinLegends?
CrazyMonete: I usually work from Monday to Friday, I like to work in the morning because that is when I have more mental energy.
In a typical day I wake up, drink coffee, work out, breakfast and then I go to the office. Many things I can do there - prepare my classes, study, research, develop new strategies, come up with new ideas, coordinate the team, review hands, reply to discord messages, grind, meditate.
What learning methods do you think work best with our members?
CrazyMonete: Mindful grinding. Never play more tables than you are able to play your A-game on. Public hand reviews. Posting or replying to other students questions.
Teaching/mentoring - This is by far the best learning method, when you have to explain something you need to know very well what you are explaining, it forces you in some way to work hard in your weak areas. Because students are going to ask you the more difficult questions.
What concepts do new members struggle with the most?
CrazyMonete: Preflop is a little bit confusing in the beginning, also learning to think in terms of ranges.
What are the biggest leaks Spin & Go players have?
CrazyMonete: I think people try to play too exploitative and too soon, even vs regs with few hands. There is too much levelling going on.
Meditation is the ultimate weapon

I saw in one of your interviews you help players with their mental game – what methods do you use?
CrazyMonete: I like to empower people in many ways, I give them info of what I think are the better ways to professionalise their poker career. I encourage them to work on their discipline and take it seriously. I also like to remove drama as much as possible, in a proactive and funny way.
The best advice I can give them is to professionalise their poker, follow a schedule and take free time to socialise and do activities outdoors everyday. Happy life = happy grinding, happy grinding = happy life.
We are big on meditation at SpinLegends and Ive just started doing it and have got some great benefits - what do you get out of meditation and what can our students?
CrazyMonete: Meditation is the ultimate weapon for success, in any aspect of life. It gives me many good things:
It Makes me calm and relaxed, which is good in general but especially before a grind session. It helps me to be aware negative and recursive thoughts. It helps me to detach from them, the more I practice the easier is for me to let go those kinds of limiting thoughts and be more focussed in the present. Not just while meditating but the rest of the day. I also get many 'aha' moments about problems or things I've been doing in my life that needs to change. It also increases my discipline
And the best thing is that only takes 10 minutes a day (you can always meditate more but 10 is more than enough) to get all the benefits. A much happier and successful life with just 10 min a day. If you don´t meditate already you should start right away!
Newbies should study 70% of the time
What do you think the ratio of study time to playing time should be?
CrazyMonete: I like to think in terms of stages of the learning process, something like this:
- Newbie: they should spend a lot of time learning preflop ranges charts and learning the basic concepts of the postflop game. Post a lot of hands and questions on Discord. Ratio approximately 70% study/30% grinding
- Intermediate: they already know the charts and the main focus should be to improve their game vs fish, exploit them hard. Start playing much more and keep posting a lot of hands on Discord. The ratio should be approximately 30% study/70% grinding
- Reg: here they should start learning GTO, expend a lot of time using solvers to get a good sense of GTO play postflop, 1-2 months here is enough. Ratio approximately 40% study/60% grinding
- Top Reg: take some time every day to review hands with solvers and commenting on hands with other top regs. Ratio approximately 20% study/80% grinding

Other than stuff at the tables, what do our members struggle with being part of a stable?
CrazyMonete: Some players are a little bit shy in the beginning and some players become a little bit dependant on external qualification. This is normal and I always encourage them to be more open and trust more in themselves. They are very intelligent, once they are on the right track it's amazing how quick some player can climb up the stakes.
Has being a coach helped your own game?
CrazyMonete: Being a coach is one of the things that helped me the most to improve my game, as I said above I think is the most powerful way to learn. I´m playing up to €100 Spins right now.
If somebody asked ‘why should I join SpinLegends?’ what would you say?
CrazyMonete: Because is the fastest way to get from "I love to play poker with my friends" to "I'm a Reg earning a good living from what I love to do".
