Pleno1 takes on the Best in the Business
Patrick Pleno1 Leonard was best known as a cash game player until a few months ago after a series of big MTT results saw him chop the Sunday Warm-Up, make the biggest ever Sunday Million final and go deep in the $10,300 SCOOP Main Event.
Since then he has been crushing the online MTTs and is in the top 3 of the PocketFives Leaderboard.
This is his first video where he explains the adjustments he made from cash games to MTTs that contributed to his amazing run of results.
By his own admission, he did make some errors early on that other cash game players should be aware of for their own game.
This video is particularly interesting because Patrick has always strived to be 'The Best in the Business' and in this tournament he took on some huge names including Faraz Jaka, Philipp Gruissem, Dominik Panka, Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom and Phil Ivey.

How to play a medium hand OOP against Phil Ivey?

Preflop

MP openraises to 2bb, Phil Ivey 3-bets and you decide to cold call in the Small Blind. Middle position folds and you are heads-up with Phil Ivey in a 3-bet pot.
Flop

You check, he checks
Turn

You bet 1/3 pot and get raised to 1,360 by Phil Ivey.
You have 3 options:
- Call
- Fold
- 3-bet
All lines have their disadvantages. The problem with a call is that you can only improve to a weak bluffcatcher on the river. On the other hand, you have a lot of equity with your hand so that a fold looks a bit too careful. So you maybe consider even a raise to deny equity to hands like AQ with Qs?
There is, however, a disadvantage. If you get called you have successfully isolated yourself against a better range and will be helpless on the river.

SB donk bets $1050, BB calls, Hero?
This situation is interesting, because it will occur very rarely in your poker career. The donk bet is very surprising.
It would look more logical if the BB would start out with a donk bet here, given the fact that he has a lot of two pairs in his range. He could easily defend K7o or K6s. So the question is what do you think the SB's range is?
Then you have to make a decision between calling and raising on thet turn. The best argument for raising is that you have the strongest nut range (KK, QQ, 77, 66). On top of that you face enough potential bluff hands with picked up draws on the turn and 89s from the flop.
You can also make arguments for just a call, because you avoid a range split and your hand might be underrepresented which could bring you one more value bet from hands like KQ, K6, 76. These hands could potentially fold against a raise.
So how do you play the turn?
