Ante Up For Africa Expands to Online Realm

Actor Don Cheadle decided to host a charity tournament as a part of the FTOPS XIII in order to raise funds for Ante Up For Africa.

This Saturday marked a charity tournament being hosted by Don Cheadle as a part of the FTOPS XIII on Full Tilt Poker in hopes of raising more funds for Ante Up For Africa.

Ante Up For Africa was founded in 2007 by Cheadle, Annie Duke and Norman Epstein. To this date it has raised $2.5 million to help solve the crisis in Darfur.

Online players aid a noble cause

The online charity tournament featured a $100+$20 NL Hold'em Six-max format with a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000. The $20 buy-in fee was donated to the charitable cause. Amongst other faces, Matt Damon also took part in the event, as he has become a regular player in these charity events, not missing out a single WSOP Ante Up For Africa event thus far.

This year's WSOP Ante Up For Africa was particularly successful, as it raised $600,000 for the noble cause. The whole event was also broadcast as a part of the ESPN coverage of 2009 WSOP which puts even more emphasis on its success.

Charity poker tournaments have become a part of many live events and now they are steadily expanding to the online poker world, as there are many players out there who would like to contribute through poker and online tournaments give them an easy way to do so.
