PartyPoker Rumoured to be Segregating Player Pools Based on Win Rate [Update]

This week several forums including our own have reported that PartyPoker has started segregating cash game traffic based on player win rate.

Threads started on both our own forum and TwoPlusTwo both observed that not only was cash game traffic noticeably lower, but different accounts were seeing different lobbies.

Although several players had reported that PartyPoker customer support have denied such a split is taking place, we reached out to PartyPoker and received the following statement (The same statement also appeared on the TwoPlusTwo forum):

"We are continually looking for ways to balance our poker room ecology. As we have said before, we are testing various features to make poker a more fun and entertaining game for both new and inexperienced players. Our extensive research shows that new and inexperienced players enjoy the game more and continue playing for longer if in the early stages they play with players of a similar ability, this includes, but is not limited to our welcome lounges. These players are free to play on any table they chose."

More speculation has been fueled by this video where a user claims they are logging onto bwin using two different accounts and seeing two different lobbies:

We have asked PartyPoker for a statement with additional details on how this possible split works, and we will bring you more on this story as it develops.

Update 15:30 GMT

It has just been confirmed in our German forum that a PartyPoker representative has confirmed that these new changes effect only No Limit cash games. They do not, however, effect Fast Forward Poker.

Have you noticed a change in the traffic on PartyPoker? Have your say in our forum:
