PokerStars: Ring Game Changes, CAP Tables and More

PokerStars have unveiled a new set of updates for their software client. Amongst others, players will now be able to sit down at the newly-created CAP tables. Also, the buy-ins for the ring game tables have undergone some changes - see below for more details.

If you are playing at PokerStars, you should be aware that a new version of the software client is now online. Have a look at what's in store for you below:

CAP tables added

Players can now join the CAP tables at PokerStars. You can find them right under the No Limit and Pot Limit lobbies, along with the regular tables.

CAP tables place a limit on how much each player can wager over the course of a single hand. When this amount has been wagered, the player is considered to be all-in for the remainder of the hand.

Ring game buy-in changes

PokerStars has also made some changes to the buy-ins at No Limit short-handed and full ring tables. Here is the overview:

• 0.01/0.02 and 0.02/0.05 blinds:
  40-250bb tables, unlabelled. This offering is unchanged.
• 0.05/0.10 and 0.10/0.25 blinds:
  40-100bb, without lobby labels. This will include all Euro currency tables.
  100-250bb tables, labelled as "deep"
• 0.25/0.50 blinds and above:
  20bb CAP, allowing buy-ins of 20-50bb, labelled "CAP"
  40-100bb, without lobby labels. This will include all Euro currency tables.
  100-250bb tables, labelled as "deep"

New No Limit Omaha Hi/Lo tables

This new set of tables will be offered to PokerStars players and the format will be short-handed. The stakes at these tables are ranging from 0.10/0.25 to 3/6.

Note: Tables with 20-50bb buy-in ranges will no longer be offered for short-handed and full ring No Limit Hold'em games.

Software changes - step by step

• The first step will be the addition of the new tables, which will occur immediately.
• The second step will be the removal of 20-50bb NL tables, which will take place on the 10th of February.

I play SSS - what should I do?

Due do these changes, it will be more difficult to play a profitable short stack strategy, especially at the lower limits. Therefore, you have several alternatives:

• Try the mid stack strategy - We have a selection of Gold articles and videos which you can use to get into this new strategy
• Switch to the big stack strategy - NL BSS is a strategy that many successful players use. There are a lot of articles and videos that can help you learn the basics and move up the ladder.
