Vicky Coren becomes the first ever double-EPT champion
History is made in Sanremo as the PokerStars Pro wins her second European Poker Tour title.
After ten seasons we finally can say that the European Poker Tour has a double-champion. PokerStars Pro, broadcaster and EPT London champion Vicky Coren is now also the EPT San Remo champion.
She defeated Giacomo Fundaro heads-up to take down the title and €476,100 first prize.
The significance of this is nothing short of remarkable. After the Triple Crown was first won by Gavin Griffin, many would argue that the first ever double-EPT champion was the next most highly coveted accolade out there.
It is great for the game that the player to finally do that is also a female, something which will capture a lot of positive mainstream media attention for sure.
This is also of significance because in the UK, Coren is best known as a broadcaster and journalist. She is the host of game show Only Connect and a regular on comedy panel shows. To say this is going to cause renewed interest in poker in the UK is an understatement.
But perhaps the best reason to celebrate is the simple fact that Coren is one of the great ambassadors for the game. She is always modest, approachable and funny. She has worked harder than most to promote the game within the poker community, as well as leveraging her considerable fame to bring it to new audiences.
Congratulations to Vicky Coren on this remarkable achievement.
