WPT Bay 101: Jonathan Little, Kara Scott & Chris Ferguson Fight for $1,000,000
The second day at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star in San Jose, California has come to a close. After a number of bust outs only 170 players remain. The top female player is Kara Scott, who ranks 12th place with 137,100 chips. Also in the top 30: Chris Ferguson, Layne Flack and Mike Matusow. Phil Ivey has already been sent to the rails.
The WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Event in San Jose, California drew a total of 415 players to the tables. Each paid a buy-in of $10,000, giving a prize pool of $3,942,500. The special thing about this tournament is that there's a bounty for every shooting star.
So anybody who throws a famous player out of the event finds themselves $5,000 richer.
The winner at the WPT Bay 101 gets a $25,500 WPT seat, as well as prize money of $1,013,500. Second place won't be disappointed either, taking home roughly $600k, while third place comes away with just over $370k.
With such a massive prize pool, it's no surprise that a host of professional players have registered - and that a number of them have already been eliminated.
Erik Seidel and Phil Ivey already sent to the rails
Erik Seidel was sent packing on the first day. The winner of the NBC National Heads-Up Championship 2011 drew the short straw with J-J against Q-Q. The second day saw the departure of Scotty Nguyen, Barry Greenstein, Daniel 'jungleman12' Cates (Q-Q vs. K-K) and Phil Ivey, among others.
Arguably the best poker player in the world, Ivey was caught out by a set-up costing him a lot of chips, just before going out. He pushed all-in with A-A on a 2-5-9 board - it was just bad luck that his opponent was holding 2-2 and called. J on the turn and 8 on the river didn't do much to help Ivey and he lost the majority of his stack. A short while later he was down with Q-9 against A-Q and was knocked out.
Erick Lindgren was another prominent victim on the second day, also going out in fairly spectacular style. His K-K lost preflop against another player's kings; the opponent then hit a flush on the turn, sending Lindgren to the rails.

On the third day only 170 players return to the tables. Among them, illustrious names such as Phil Hellmuth, jonathanlittle, Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier and Men "The Master" Nguyen. Kara Scott and Chris Ferguson are two more shooting stars in the front-running. The Canadian born player took 12th position with 137,100 chips, whilst the 2000 WSOP champion ranked 8th with 133,200 chips.
Mike Matusow is hot on the heels of both in 21st place with 127,200 chips. Still, all players share just one common goal today: chasing chip leader Chris Trapani, who occupies 1st place with 197,900 chips.
