"The Game Keeps Changing"
PokerStrategy.com: What's your take on the importance of articles for a poker player's education?
![]() |
| Our Author miiwiin |
miiwiin: "From my point of view, it's the easiest tool. If I am trying to get an understanding of a topic, I always start out with written content. You can freely decide how much time to spend, go deeper on certain aspects if you want and repeat the content if necessary.
Another advantage is the possibility of providing feedback. Through this you can give your own view and talk about it. No article is carved in stone or infallible.
If you notice that you are having trouble with a certain aspect of your game, reading articles and hand evaluations are the easiest way to deal with it."
PokerStrategy.com: How do you come up with new ideas for articles?
miiwiin: At the beginning it was quite easy, as there was only very little content available and you could basically choose any topic and write about without repeating yourself or what someone else wrote.
Recently I am more focused on listening to the demands I come across while discussing in the hand evaluations and strategy boards. This is also the reason why I am currently working on "3-bets and its consequences" as there was quite a bit of interest from the community for this topic.
As soon as I am done with it, there are about 10 new topics already written down and waiting for me. All of them have been suggested by the community and I am always happy if I can deliver what the community members ask for.
"Flexibility is very important"
PokerStrategy.com: How do you prepare a topic for an article?
miiwiin: Probably like most people would. I sum up my thoughts and ideas, make a draft and check that all important aspects are included. You can't always think of everything, but you need to make sure that you cover the most important principles.
It's always possible to argue about opinions. However, I try to not only consider my own thoughts, but also those of the users who may have their own view on things. After around 30,000 hand evaluations at various limits, I have heard so many different opinions, which have often changed the way I look at things. This flexibility is very important because the game keeps changing. Something that was good two years ago may be completely outdated today.
That's the reason why my articles still get changed and modified sometimes, even after they have been published.
PokerStrategy.com: You have worked on almost countless article series. Which did you enjoy the most?
miiwiin: That's hard to say. I'm currently working on a series about 3-bets. It's a very comprehensive topic, which makes it somewhat special. I'm putting in a lot of time and effort, but I think it'll be worth it in the end. Another series we published that I really enjoyed dealt with range analysis. The column about 4-bet-bluffs was a lot of fun as well.
PokerStrategy.com: How much time do you have to actually play poker these days?
miiwiin: Not too much. Right now I would refer to myself as "Full Tilt Victim" – all I can do is wait and hope. I do play at other poker rooms too, but I've decided to take a little break right now. However, I do plan to return to the tables pretty soon!
