Hello, Michael! Thank you for taking the time to chat with us. First, tell us a little about yourself.
Hello! I am 39 years old and live in the Moscow District with my family. I am an electric welder by profession, but have also worked for the police, as a security guard, at a construction site, as a taxi driver, as a courier and as an installer of low-voltage networks (Internet connection). Now poker is my only source of income.
That's a lot of life experience! And how did you come to play poker and when did you start playing online?
I was looking for a way to make money online. I was looking at trading but saw a link for free poker money at PokerStrategy. This was in 2010. The $50 received at TitanPoker was quickly lost and my wife thought poker was a 'scam'. I had to play freerolls for a long time on PokerStars. New players with less than 30 days after their account opened could participate in 48-max SNGS with a prize of 10, 4 and 2 cents for the first three places. Having played a couple of tournaments, I realised that it would be much more profitable to register in each (filling time 5-6 seconds) and shove each hand. After two days my PokerStars start-up bankroll was about $25.
"I needed a change of discipline"
What were you playing before you started playing Spin & Go with SpinLegends?
I started playing MTTSNGs 360-max for 10 cents, quickly increased the bankroll and switched to knockout MTTSNGs 90-max. Then MTTs, Fifty50, Hypers, Nine and Six Max. I then needed to change discipline when PokerStars changed their VIP system. I applied to SpinLegends and was invited to the Gold Team.
Why did you decide to join SpinLegends?
Simply, the conditions of the Spinlegends school are much more profitable compared to other options for training with coaches. In a team of like-minded people, it is more comfortable and more interesting to be involved, you can ask the question that interests you at any time of the day or night and, importantly, get an answer.
At what limit did you start at SpinLegends and where are you now?
I started at $3 and am now at $30 Spins.
How did your climb to the $30 limit go? How easily did you overcome $7s and $15s?
$3 and $7 Spins were passed fairly quickly, at $15 there were sufficiently more competent regs, it was necessary to stay there longer, and in the end it was beaten over 5,000 tournaments.
What are your actual results at the $30 limit and how confident are you feeling on it?
The "30s" were even harsher, but after necessary adjustments in my game I became quite confident. At the moment, 1,760 tournaments have been played with a ChipEV of 51.
What are the biggest multipliers you got during your time at SpinLegends?
I got x100 and x200 multipliers at the $15 level. I won the x100 easily in 10 hands but lost the x200.
Tell us a little about the training process at school. What forms of training did you find most effective in your project?
The training process at the school is well organised and takes place in various formats. A large database of training records has been accumulated on all aspects of the game, at any time it can be reviewed, refreshed in memory, and re-worked. There is an opportunity to offer the trainer a topic for the following trainings on the questions you are interested in, ask the coach to deconstruct your game in detail (on positions, on a specific street, etc.), but, as has been repeatedly said, the most effective training is independent work.
How much has changed in your understanding of the game in these six months at SpinLegends?
Considering that during my entire career I played relatively little post flop because it was not decisive for the formats I played, for me most of the information was new. I began to better understand the ranges of players on each street and how to play with these ranges. If earlier I chose push-fold, now I like to play post-flop, because there I see my advantage.
"Good physical form = energy"
There is an opinion that poker is a young affair, and it is difficult for members of the older generation to compete with them. Where did you get your energy and motivation at 40 years of age?
The answer is simple: good physical form = energy. And my motivation is given clearly defined goals.
What hobbies do you have besides poker? How do you prefer to spend your free time?
There used to be a lot of hobbies - guitar, billiards, sports games. But with the advent of children (my daughter is 13 years old, and my son is 2.5 years old), everything has come to the foreground, and in my free time I instill in them useful hobbies.
And how is your family now related to your poker activity? Do you find support and understanding in the circle of loved ones?
Now the relationship has changed dramatically. My wife recognised what I do is work and she takes it seriously. All those who showed skepticism now understand that this is not a lottery and they want success for me.
What are your future plans? How far do you want to go through the limits?
Like any perfectionist, the plans are to work with maximum efficiency to reach the highest limits and compete with the best regulars.
