you do realise that the red line is subject to variance, right? there's a lot less variance in it than in the blue line, but it's still possible to have pretty big swings in it

back in march i was going to make NL50 rush SH videos, bu the whole video making process took far too much effort

Yes, of course, but when there's an almost 2x difference in "win"rate over 10k+ hands, I assume it's something to do with my game, and not variance. There are always small swings in the red line, but you can accurately see trends over a few thousand hands only, most of the time (imho)

~~~
alright, so I played 2.3k hands of rush in 3 sessions so far today, and here's my overall graph (including yesterday's session)
I started out playing 2 tables, but thanks to tableninja I had plenty of time, so I added a 3rd, then a 4th table. In retrospect, the 4th table was maybe a bit much, so I'll stick to 3 max for the time being.
I've yet to review hands, but I feel like I made a ton of mistakes. A couple of them were due to FPS (fancy play syndrome), when I just can't let a reg take a pot with an obvious bluff (which of course never turns out to be a bluff). And a few times, I read my opponents perfectly, but just couldn't bring myself to fold to one bet on the river when they had obviously hit something.
Overall I call (either bluff-catching or with a marginal made hand) too much on the flop or turn when I should be folding, and I just end up folding on the river and losing in dumb spots. Hopefully that accounts for some of the big dips in the red line, cause it's going down a bit faster than I'd like.
Anyways, I just went through my hands quickly, and there's a few I should really post in the hand evaluation boards.
Oh btw I'm up 21$ today, but I should really be down a bunch. I ran like god, especially in the 1st two sessions, hitting sets all the time. Well, I got it in once vs a higher set, and once vs a flopped straight, but still, I ran pretty good.
I'm gonna try and have a quick nap, then -> 2-3 tabling session where I'll try to find spots where I can improve and/or exploit the opposition. Wish me luck :f_confused:
Oh and just because every time I talk about rush, I think about this song (and the Chuck episode about it), I give you, Rush!
My first thought was "well, this is embarrassing", but it's not *quite* as bad as it looks. I'm losing ~9bb/100 in non-sd. I have absolutely no idea what this represents for rush, but I assume that my SD winnings will be lower than normal 6-max, since fish play tighter. Either way, I'm going through stats, my notes on videos and paying attention at the tables to see if my preflop game needs any work. Postflop too of course, but that's easier since it's not really specific to rush.
Also, it seems there's way more variance in non-sd than in normal games, so I'll have to wait a while to know anything significant about interpreting graphs.
After 4452, my WTSD and W$SD are 25.5% and 45.8% respectively. The former is just under what I have at non-rush games (~27%), and the latter should indicate that I'm running at least a little badly. That said, like I mentioned in the last post, I have been a bit of a calling station, so I didn't really expect w$sd to be very high.
This is the kind of hand I'm talking about. This one's a bit of an arguable example, but since I'm not 100% sure I played badly, I wanted to share it:
Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:
Play hand
$0.25/$0.5 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Known players:
[tg]SB$70.90:///////;BB$64.75:///////;MP2 (Hero)$53.40:///////;MP3$53.65:///////;CO$36.00:///////;BU$46.35:///////;[/tg]
Preflop: Hero is MP2 with A:s, K:s.
Hero raises to $1.75, MP3 folds, CO calls $1.75, BU folds, SB calls $1.50, BB folds.
Flop: ($5.75) 4:d, K:d, A:c (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $4.25, CO folds, SB raises to $13.50, Hero raises to $51.65, SB calls $38.15.
Final Pot: $109.05.
SB appears to be a reg (just have a few hands on him). When he check/raised, I thought "well, he's only representing 44 here, and this is is a terrible spot to bluff, so I could fold." Then the other (well, one of the many) voices in my head said "fuck it, you have top 2!! shoooove"
In retrospect, he could've had QJdd, *maybe* QTdd, and *maybe* A4, but those two are really rare imo. I have 35% equity against a range of A4s, 44, and 40% against A4s, 44, QJdd. I have to invest a lot of money though, so I still kinda think a fold is best. Thoughts?
All that aside, I'm really liking the new game. My main problem with poker is discipline; I just can't sit down, play a 2h session, and repeat 3 times a day. My mind drifts, I lose focus, I stop, take long breaks, and get lazy. But rush is so demanding and fast-paced I just have to focus all the time, so I don't get distracted, and I end up playing for a long time without even realizing it... e.g, the last session, I played 1.8k hands in 2 hours of 3-tabling, and I could've gone on for a while longer. Although that may have been due to the coffee/chocolate cake I had for dessert (turns out there's a lot of caffeine in those things o_O).
That's pretty much it for now, methinks.
Oh btw, if anyone who's playing SH rush is up for some sweat sessions, it would be most awesome :f_grin:
I play rush fullring (nl50) so i cant really help u out with SH sweat sessions.
nsd winnings: well personally i have a really positive red line. it is even >my blue line b/c i feel that in rush fullring people play super polarised ranges which are easy to exploit. I dont know if the same applies to SH.
volume: I wouldn't mind a rush volume competition with some side bet action if u r interested.
hand: Again I am not a SHplayer but i dont think i am ever folding top 2 here.
know what u mean sir ... i also cant do these 2 hour sessions. just finished another 8 hour session. playing in the zone > short sessions imo :f_grin:
@ hand: if he is not one of the creative regs u can possibly fold .... but still, the combo diamond draws as well as A4 makes it a stack off except against nits. ip i usually call his c/r on flop. u get more info on turn + annoy him if he has combo draw on blank turn + in case he is tilted due to some cold run last hands (i heard some ppl do tilt) u keep his bluffs in.
hf rushing and dont forget what we discussed in coaching! sometimes less is more ...
oh shut up my brain is like an old slow computer, it overheats after a couple hours of heavy use :f_frown:
I agree with calling the c/r btw. it crossed my mind when I posted the hand, but I didn't really think about it during the hand unfortunately..
@i5bet72o: hmm.. maybe once I have the skills and experience and time, could be fun :) Although I'm not too hopeful about that, I'm starting uni in a month so i'll have pretty much 0 free time =/
I might start playing FR too, if/when I master SH and I feel I can play more than 4 tables..
i also have uni in september so it wouldnt really work for me then either. I also dont think it is profitable to play >4tables of rush.
I would call AKs and jam any , EV wise of getting it in is close to EV0 (EV2 at best I guess) whilst when he bets the turn on a non , you have more deadmoney therefore your EV rises when he has a marginal hand other than 44 in case he folds to your jam ;)
I would use leakbuster to see where you leaking money at non-sd
blech. got woken up at 9am by the worst stomach cramps I've ever had..just spent 3h either puking nothing or lying down, super tired but not being able to sleep ..actually, I sort of dreamed, but without really falling asleep.. quite an interesting experience...anyhoo, I'm feeling slightly better now, but I don't think I'll play much (if any) poker today. I'll just read up on PLO a little, and start revising maths for uni I guess.
@Gerv: yep, i agree. But I was wondering about those kinds of situations the other day. I mean, saying "ok, we call/raise a bad hand, but it's ok because we'll have >0 EV on the next street". Shouldn't we consider the whole hand to calculate EV? For example, in this hand, we're behind but we call against odds because we'll have a slightly positive EV on the turn -- but since we're investing money while we're behind, shouldn't we discount that investment (or rather, the negative EV of it) from the turn EV? I hope I'm making sense..
I'll give leakbuster a try I suppose, hopefully it can help with rush
Well if you get it in you have your EV right away
Whilst calling may be worser than that directly, you are ''drawing'' to blanks on the Turn. You also are IP which makes things Ev-wise easier and better
if a flop action is -EV and a planned turn action is +EV, the flop action is still -EV...
if you want to think of EV in terms of individual actions on different streets, then these all have to be +EV for the hand to be ok.
but it would be more reasonable think of the EV of a line, e.g. flat flop - shove turn
Well, today was a very gay day. And I'm not even talking about vhallee
Edit by vhallee: up yours swiss!
I normally never pay much attention to all-in EV because, let's face it, it's utter and complete bullshit, but I just wanted to illustrate my blatant inability to win a single all-in in today's last session (last 1.7k hands). It's pretty weird to look back and realise I lost 9 stacks today. I hadn't had that kind of quick swings since my 12-tabling days. I don't mind too much though, imo I played (almost) just as well as any other day.
On the plus side, I played 4.1k hands today already -- and i'll probably stop there cause I'm tired and a little tilted. I played 4 tables for my first session (2.7k hands, -4 stacks), but I think it may have been a bit soon, since I lose slightly more at non-sd. It appears to be just a small difference though, so with the added hands/hr, it's most likely worth it. Still, I'd rather improve with 2-3 tables first and win a little, and then put in more volume when my winrate is higher.
Now I'm off to get back in touch with my inner nerd by finishing the installation of ubuntu on my tablet pc.. laterz
no no, you misunderstand me... I'm a nerd with an inner nerd. or a inner nerdier, if you will.
as if playing online poker wasn't bad enough, i try to do it on linux o_O
btw, the latest ubuntu is mucho awesome.. I haven't had linux for over a year, and they've really improved it since then. Plus FTP seems to work perfectly :)
no way I can make HEM work unfortunately :( so I'll give PT3 a try, cause I'd rather not have to use windows, although not being able to synchronize databases between laptop and desktop is gonna suck
ok, I don't know if I got owned really hard, or if this guy's just a donk, but..
the guy is a laggy reg who I marked as not being very good..
Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:
Play hand
$0.25/$0.5 No-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Known players:
[tg]SB$47.25:///////;BB$43.65:///////;MP2$20.70:///////;MP3$50.00:///////;CO (Hero)$72.30:///////;BU$70.75:///////;[/tg]
Preflop: Hero is CO with K:c, Q:c.
MP2 folds, MP3 raises to $1.50, Hero calls $1.50, 2 folds, BB calls $1.00.
Flop: ($4.75) 4:h, 8:c, Q:d (3 players)
BB checks, MP3 bets $3.50, Hero calls $3.50, BB folds.
Turn: ($11.75) 7:s (2 players)
MP3 bets $8.00, Hero calls $8.00.
River: ($27.75) 5:c (2 players)
MP3 bets $37.00(All-In), Hero calls $37.00.
Final Pot: $101.75.
Results follow:
Hero shows a pair of queens(Kc Qc).
MP3 shows two pairs, sevens and fives(7d 5d).
MP3 wins with two pairs, sevens and fives(7d 5d).
In retrospect, I think I got owned. damnit.
still losing btw, just played a 1670 hand, -142$ session. I got back to a slightly more aggressive style (I had gotten a bit more passive over the last couple days, lowering my 3bet %, which contributed to me losing more moniez imo), but I ran a little cold. Gonna take a long break now, play some pool, maybe swim in the lake a little, and get back to the rush this evening
Today:
brain....hurts....
Went to play pool with a friend from 2-5pm, so I started playing rather late. First session is 3-tabling, the second one is all 4-tabling. The second one went pretty well imo. Before when I 4-tabled, my old 12-tabling instincts came back and I played too automatically (not 3-betting enough, etc), so this time I paid attention and I think it paid off.
I put in about 850hands/hr 3-tabling, and slightly over 1k/hr 4-tabling. Since I make ~1$/100hands in rakeback at nl50, not counting FPPs, that means I get 10$/hr in rakeback alone. Hopefully that means I can make more than 25$/hr total, but I'll have to wait and see about my winrate.
I guess I'll play til 50k hands on NL50, then move up to nl100 with a little coaching to make sure I start off smoothly, and then I should have a decent hourly rate. I doubt I'll have the bankroll or skills to beat NL200 before end of september though (I start uni on the 21st), so I guess I'll be a reg at 100 for a long time.
Speaking of uni, I'm trying to work out how and when I'll be able to play poker, keeping in mind that school work will pass first. I'm going to study life sciences (sort of like bio-engineering; the goal is to study neuroscience later), but biology and chemistry, which make up 2/3rds of the courses in 1st year, were some of my worst subjects in high school.
Plus, I'm aiming to have an average of 5.0 (scale is 1-6, 5 =~80%) to be able to do my 3rd year abroad; the way it works is, you have to have an average of at least 4.5 to do your 3rd year in Europe, or 5.0 for the rest of the world. If you get the grades, and find a compatible course in another university, you pretty much get full scholarship, and your degree at the end (even if the courses aren't 100% the same), so it's def. worth the extra work. I'd really like to spend a year in either Sweden or Montreal, so I need good grades. Needless to say, it's gonna take a lot of work :f_biggrin:
Anyway, on Wednesdays and Fridays I start at 1pm (rather than 8am on the other days) and only have 3-4h of courses, so hopefully I can squeeze a few hours of play in the morning. With that and the weekends, I hope to be able to play ~10hrs / week, but I really have no idea how realistic that is, especially considering I'll need 2-3hrs/day for transport...
Okay, back to poker.
My red line is doing a little better too, so that's nice.
+~270$ RB
I think there was something else I wanted to talk about, but I forgot, so I'll just end here.
