Major Improvements to Our Tell-A-Friend System
Referring new members to PokerStrategy.com has always been a lucrative model for our community. To make it even more successful, we are introducing new pillars to our TaF System, a revenue share for subscriptions, a 2nd level and new payout tiers.
What is Tell-A-Friend?
It’s a simple idea: you recommend us to your friends and earn money for it.
For you, it’s an easy way to benefit from the success of PokerStrategy.com, and for us, it’s the most effective way of marketing, because your friends know to trust your judgement and therefore you act as our best ambassador.
Your personal referrer link. If people sign up through it, we know you brought them to us.

Change # 1: New Tell-A-Friend tiers
In the past, you could earn up to $100 for referring a new member. Now, it’s up to $500. That’s possible because we’ve removed the first payout tier at 15 StrategyPoints. The reason is simple: we want to increase your reward for bringing a new member who sticks around for a long time and becomes an active part of our community.
If, on the other hand, you bring someone who doesn’t really care about poker and effectively only wastes their free $50 quickly, this change to our rewards system mirrors their lower value to our community.
The new tiers will count for all members you refer who sign up from December 6 onwards.
| The Tiers | ||
| Your Friend Reaches... | Old Payout | New Payout |
| 15 SP | $10 | - |
| 100 SP | $15 | $25 |
| 500 SP | - | $25 |
| 2,000 SP | - | $50 |
| 5,000 SP | $75 | $150 |
| 20,000 SP | - | $250 |
| Total | up to $100 | up to $500 |
Change # 2: 10% revenue share on subscription packages
For every member who buys a subscription package in our points shop.
With coaches such as Daniel "jungleman12" Cates, Dusty "leatherass9" Schmidt or Collin Moshman, our video & coaching offer adds value to any ambitious poker player.
And while many of your poker-playing friends might not want to create a poker room account through PokerStrategy.com to earn StrategyPoints, they might still want to take up our subscription offers, e.g. the Gold status for $89 for 3 months / $249 for a year.
This change counts for all members you refer who sign up from November 1 onwards.
Change # 3: Profit from bringing in well-connected friends
Sometimes, you might bring in a member who in turn brings in even more members themselves – maybe they have a popular blog, run a big home game, or just have a lot of friends. In the past, you did not directly profit from that. Now, you do.
For every member your referred members refer, you get 10% of their earnings.
Example: You refer member A. A in turn refers member B. B reaches 20,000 StrategyPoints. Your friend A earns $500 total. And you earn 10% of that, i.e. $50.
The 2nd level will count for all members you refer who sign up from December 6 onwards.
Why the change?
Three reasons:
- We want to make the rewards system fairer.
- We want to make it much harder to abuse the Tell-A-Friend system (which sadly happened in the past).
- We want to introduce rewards for recommending our new subscription system.
Are the changes an overall improvement?
Yes – at least, if you refer the right kind of friends.
Overall, with the new system, we would have paid out significantly more money to our referrers in the past. An example: for all members who signed up in the first quarter of 2010, their referrers would have earned about 35% more revenue by today – subscriptions not even counted.
But of course, it depends on the members you refer. There will be many of you who would have earned more in the past, but also some who would have earned less. And it will take a little longer now to receive your first earnings, as the lowest tier is now at 100 StrategyPoints.
But as you know, 100 StrategyPoints is not much for someone who has at least a bit of serious interest in online poker. And these is the kind of people who are of real value for our community in the long run.
If you want to see for yourself whether our new system works in your favour, just have a look at the members you referred in the past and find out what you would have earned through them with the amendments in place!
