English Community Round-up
Welcome to the news round-up for the English Community. Each week, we will keep you in touch with some of the most important threads within the forum together with some of the fun posts, so that you never need to miss them.

Community round-up is your weekly source for all that happens inside
the PokerStrategy forums. If you missed something last week and you
still want to be in touch with our community, here are some of the most
important posts. This is just one of many community-related projects
being set up.
It started on the 27th March 2009 with a specific aim in mind
and the goal was achieved this week in plenty of time for a special
event that happens in the beginning of June.
For anyone still unsure what I'm referring to, I give you this weeks blog of the week:
My Quest for BM Party #7 by community member .
The Black Members party is as I'm sure most of you will already be
aware, an exclusive gathering of the PokerStrategy playing elite. In
addition to the lifelong Black members, those members achieving
Diamond status in time for the event were also invited and we already
had a number of English Community members signed up to attend.
set himself the target of achieving
Diamond status and somehow found time between mammoth grinding sessions
to blog his progress for other members to read.
Despite yours truly almost tempting fate by congratulating
a week or so early, it gives me
great pleasure to confirm that the remaining PokerStrategy points were
successfully obtained and Diamond member
will now be able to paaaaarty. 🙂
Many congratulations from all your
friends and fellow members in the English Community. Enjoy the BM event.
A quick word too for community member erptech who
has also recently started a similar project. Do please visit Earp's ÜberMicro Blog -> 10 days Diamond party challenge and give him every support and encouragement in his quest.

Judge Sim87: c/r flop if you check. I prefer leading there against competent opponents.
A big warm welcome to all new community members this week.
Included amongst them is randomly chosen new community member of the
week playerpb who joined us on the 26th May. Welcome, it's good to see you.
We wish all our new community members every success and enjoyment with
your poker and look forward to seeing you active in the forums soon.
Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have and/or share your
poker experiences, our members are really keen to help fellow
poker players whenever and wherever they can.
Our community amassed winnings of $ 9,789.74 this week.
Congratulations to all our winners/other performances, which included:
- deranged84 took down a $15k guaranteed event on Full Tilt for $4,831.58, their first big tournament win;

Sorry I cannot name everyone each week, but I'll try to pick up a
selection of different people each time. Keep posting those wins in this thread, we're still short of our $1,000,000 target, but have broken the $400k mark with a current total of $410,058.17.
spotlight on
Spotlight this week on not
only a very popular community member, but also an extremely consistent
tournament player although he's actually far too modest to admit that
himself. This weeks interview comes from South America, spotlight on
community member alejandrosh.
PokerStrategy: Hi alejandrosh welcome and thanks for agreeing to an interview for the community.
alejandrosh: Hi, thanks to you. glad to do this interview 😀
PokerStrategy: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
alejandrosh: I just turned 19 this week, I'm from
Bogota, Colombia and unfortunately still live there. Currently studying
but I study more poker than university stuff at the moment.
PokerStrategy: Ah Happy Birthday. Is there a story behind the nickname, does it have any special meaning?
alejandrosh: My brother opened my first email
account with this nickname like 12 years ago. It's my name and my
lastname initials so there's not too much imagination.
PokerStrategy: How long have you been playing poker?
alejandrosh: Live games at school since I was
16. I had some interest since I watched the Moneymaker-Farha WSOP heads
up on ESPN and liked the bluff from Moneymaker (today I think it was a
horrible play). But joining PokerStrategy changed a lot.
PokerStrategy: How would you describe your poker style?
alejandrosh: TAG, but sometimes too tight and a lot of times too agressive 😀
PokerStrategy: Which variants are you currently playing and at what levels?
alejandrosh: I'm currently shooting at PLO50
shorthanded, I also play NL50(SH) and multi-table tournaments up to
$33. I used to play SSS and sit&go's also but I don't anymore.
PokerStrategy: Do you play any set tournaments or just whatever is going at the time you are logged on?
alejandrosh: When I play I have a schedule and
play every good tourney from 1-2pm (the daily $30k, the $3.30 rebuy at
Stars), on Sundays I add the 1/4 million and other "Sunday only"
tourneys.
PokerStrategy:
Nice, yes I had the pleasure of playing (albeit briefly on my part)
alongside you and railing your good self and a few other community members
last Sunday, was good fun. Do you ever play any live events, or are you
mainly online based?
alejandrosh: I only went to a casino 3 times
being a slight loser there, It would be nice to come back since the
play is worse than NL2, but I like to play online way more.
Multi-tabling Omaha is something you can't get on any live game. 😀
PokerStrategy: If you had to have a theme tune to enter a poker tournament to (like boxers when they enter the ring), what would it be?
alejandrosh: Fear of the dark by Iron Maiden because it's a great song.
PokerStrategy:
Can you remember what happened to the PokerStrategy $50? Did you lose
it early on or is it still in your current bankroll somewhere?
alejandrosh: I received the $50 on Full Tilt and
it's still in there, although I played sss on NL25 with just 10x Buyins
but somehow I was lucky enough to not go broke (don't do this at
home!!!).
PokerStrategy: Ah very wise words. Who are your favourite poker pro's and why?
alejandrosh: Phil Ivey because he is the man. Tom
Dwan because he is insane. Boku because he is probably not human.
PokerStrategy: lol, yes something else indeed. What has been your biggest success/achievement in poker so far?
alejandrosh: I think my approach to the game
after playing it seriously for one year, I've come close to making
decent money at multitable tournaments but in my opinion a good
mentality is priceless.
PokerStrategy: What do you like most about PokerStrategy?
alejandrosh: It's hard to pick one, but the discussion forums is probably where I've learned the most.
PokerStrategy: Do you have a favourite blog that you are currently following?
alejandrosh: No favourite, but I generally like
the Fixed Limit blogs and see how a player can be tilt-free with those
huge swings.
PokerStrategy: What advice would you give to our newer members just starting out in poker for the first time?
alejandrosh: Respect BRM and remember that this is a game after all.
PokerStrategy: Is there anyone in particular from the community you'd like to give a shout out to?
alejandrosh:jaime001254 who told me about this site.
PokerStrategy: Do you have any hobbies outside of poker?
alejandrosh: I play videogames somehow good (I
have some videos at youtube), also play basketball (although I'm only
1.78m short), 3 cushion billiards (although I suck) and make noise with
my guitar, I like neoclassical metal.
PokerStrategy: If money was no object, what would you buy? and if you were able to have 3x wishes, what would you ask for?
alejandrosh: A flamethrower (fire is cool).
1. Be seven feet tall
2. Good health to my friends and family.
3. two more wishes and the second wish will be another two
PokerStrategy:
Well thank you for doing this interview
alejandrosh, you've given us all a great insight
into the person behind the nickname and we're very grateful for you
taking the time out to talk to us today. We wish you continued success
with your poker and look forward to seeing you in the forum and on the
green felt soon.
alejandrosh: Thank you for this opportunity, it was fun and a pleasure.
Would you like to appear yourself one week or maybe you'd like to
nominate a fellow member who you would like to know more about? Drop me
a reply in the feedback thread and maybe your wish will come true.
Check out the "My Life Is Average" thread in our small talk forum board for perhaps a different perspective on life. Also similar items can be found in the Fun & Off Topic board.
As always, this is your Community page and whilst I try to browse most
forum threads looking for points of interest, it's of course not
possible to cover everything. So go on, drop me some suggestions and/or
your thoughts on what you would like to appear in this Round-up news
item in the following feedback thread.
