What would Duke Nukem and Serious Sam do with a set?

The biggest action heroes in gaming history want to help a PokerStrategist who hit a set on a 10-8-4 board with Pocket 4s. The problem: three players already went all-in ahead of him. What's your advice?

Usually, you want to see a cheap flop with small pocket pairs, hoping to hit a set. That's also what PokerStrategist dogdo had in mind during a recently played $7 tourney. So our community member (stack: 3,000 chips) called a preflop bet of 105 chips with 4-4, and two more players decided to do the same. Since he was new at the table, Dogdo had no stats yet on his opponents.

Then things got really interesting on the 10-8-4 flop: The Small Blind checked, the Big Blind bet 420 chips, the initial raiser decided to call and our PokerStrategist did so as well. However, the Small Blind now put the pedal to the metal and went all-in. Afterwards the Big Blind and the initial raiser put all their chips in the middle as well. Now, the question for dogdo was: "What should I do with my set?"

Question of the day: call or fold?

The Duke definitely has more muscles and cojones than Serious Sam. Therefore, he recommends a call since the opponents on lower limits tend to push hands like top pair, two pair or straight draw in such a spot. If one of them has a higher set, then that's just bad luck in the eyes of the Duke.

Serious Sam: Nooooooooooooo - Fold!

Most of the time Serious Sam likes to step up to angry mobs of enemies with big guns - but he also knows when retreat is the way to go. Therefore, he recommends folding in this spot. If only two opponents had been all-in, Dogdo still could have been ahead with his set. But since three opponents go for broke, it is more likely that one of them is holding 8-8 or 10-10. Furthermore, our PokerStrategist hasn't invested that many chips yet and could therefore still continue to play even after folding.
