Baby-faced Eoghan O'Dea comes from a family of genuine poker pedigree. His father Donnacha has made six cashes in the WSOP Main Event, and secured his maiden bracelet in 1998 by defeating Johnny Chan in a PLO Rebuy event.

Ireland has struck up quite a love affair with poker. The Irish Open is Europe's longest running poker festival, whereas players such as Noel Furlong (1999 WSOP Main Event winner), Donnacha O'Dea and Marty Smyth have continued to fly the flag.

Eoghan O'Dea is no stranger to tournament success, coming 2nd in the Ladbrokes Poker Million VII for $260k, and finishing runner up at the 2009 WPT Marrakech for $388,532. Despite being only 26, he's already proved his mettle on the international poker circuit, boasting over $700k in live tournament winnings to go with his iPoker ECOOP title.

O'Dea remains modest about his chances, "There's no bad players left, so I don't know if I have an upper hand. Obviously, my dad had a great influence. Helped me out, allowed me to ask a few questions. He taught me how to play. We've been texting a lot during the tournament".

O'Dea's poker playing background means he's equally motivated by the prestige of being world champion, "You dream to win the WSOP main event. It's the best in poker and that would be pretty amazing for me".

O'Dea appeared to coast through to the final stages of this year's Main Event, chipping up gradually without many major scares. His impressive live tournament resume, along with some tips from O'Dea senior, will stand him in great stead.
