News: Kate: "A huge bluff was my only chance!"

Kate only has a pair of threes on the river and can't really pay HeroCow's bet with it. What happened next impressed even Le Douchi though...

Kate: Hey Le Douchi!

Once again, I've seen my only escape as a huge overbet since I assumed my opponent would still call a smaller raise with weaker hands than a flush.

I think I had a good hand to bluff in this spot because having the A entails that she can't have the nut flush. Since I'm checking a flush draw in 50% of cases on the flop, she also can't exclude those from my own range.

Additionally, a bluff like that should be rather uncommon when playing with blinds of $0.50/$1. She would try to squeeze some more money out of me with two-pairs, sets and a straight. I've thwarted that plan, though.

Since some bluffs should still be part of her strategy in this spot, my own bluff should be slightly profitable.

Le Douchi: Hey Kate!

I'm pretty impressed. Your play seems to be correct and should get you $1 to $3 in the long run. Of course, it's still up to discussion whether a profit margin like that is worth the high risk. This is what we're looking at on the river:

Yellow flushes are "only" 39% of her range. We have to assume, however, that she's still bluffing more than 15 combos.

That results in you actually getting the necessary 70% fold equity in this spot, making your play slightly profitable. Calling is of course not an option since 15 bluff combos only lead to roughly 20% equity.

When watching the hand, I actually thought that it can't really be a good move. However, it seems to pan out on paper. Nice hand, Kate!

By the way, what happened with Jürgen? You guys not cool anymore?

Kate: The tree house affair wasn't the problem. He's moving to Liverpool, though, and I'm not into long-distance relationships.

Anyway, I wanted to research some uncommon words and idioms this weekend in order to use them more often in my daily routine.

For instance, stuff like "Bob's your Uncle", "gentrify" and "axiomatic". Are you in?

Le Douchi: That sounds pretty dull, you little weirdo! I'm more interested in coming up with new hip terms to distance myself from the mainstream, making me something special.
