If you missed something last week and you still want to be in touch with our community, here are some of the most important posts. This is just one of many community-related projects being set up.

Poker Blog of the week

This weeks blog of the week is 'TiLT n 'stAArs SnG RoLLeRCoasteR' by community member p0kerqt.

The blog has an excellent introduction and is a really interesting read throughout, not to mention the unique use of color text which is a kind of trademark of p0kerqt.

Great work Sarah, keep it going.

Wishing you every success.

Judge terrorblade responds:
> Eliminate check/call, he knows you're not folding a good pair here so he won't bet his weaker one for value;
> If it was the 8 of hearts I'd be more inclined to bet/fold if he was under 1.0 AF, the fact is only a weird gutshot+pair got here on the river;
> You gotta be ahead 1/15 times to make this a good call, the pot is way too big you HAVE to call, Bet/call;
>My bet is that he had T5.

Hmmm wonder whether it was the T5?

New community member of the week

On behalf of the whole community I would like to welcome all new community members again this week, including our randomly chosen new community member of the week drtribe. drtribe has been really impressed by the wealth and depth of strategy material available to them and mentioned the following in his introductory thread:

"I found this site the other day and i am really impressed with all the articles, videos and the forum, it looks a really good community."

Thanks drtribe, yes we have a very active and friendly community who are always eager to help each others development and we have a lot of fun along the way too. Take your time browsing the forums, sample hand threads and look out for community events too, these are always good for a laugh or two.

spotlight on

Spotlight on jonaton, interviewed by eaglestar88.

PokerStrategy: Hi jonaton, welcome and thanks for agreeing to an interview for the community. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

jonaton: Well, shockingly my name is Jonaton. I live in Toronto Canada and am 35 years old, married with 3 kids and a grandchild. I am a chef by trade and was running the 4 diamond restaurant in a well known Internationally branded hotel chain but the company I was working for laid me off about 2 months ago, so I guess by default I am a poker pro?

PokerStrategy: Do you speak any other languages apart from your English?

jonaton: I was put into French immersion in kindergarten and took that for 10 years but as I haven't had much chance to use it in the last few years (other than yelling at the French waiters) I understand French much better than I speak it. Working in a kitchen for so many years I could swear at you in about 15 languages.

PokerStrategy: Hmmm, that might be useful when at the tables, might be back to you for those later on 😉
I'm guessing your nickname is quite an obvious choice with no hidden meaning?

jonaton: Yes it was the name I used to use way back when playing Dungeons and Dragons, you know before the internet. When the internet came along I have used it as a handle in most places.

PokerStrategy: How long have you been playing poker?

jonaton: I do remember playing poker for pennies with my grandparents many years ago but I put some money into a site a few years back, played for a while like a complete donkey with no understanding of the game. Made a little lost a little then blew it all eventually and stopped playing. Started messing around with Facebook poker a while back of all things and decided I wanted to start playing for real again. Fortunately I found Pokerstrategy and it has been going well since then

PokerStrategy: Which variants are you currently playing and at what levels?

jonaton: I have been playing a lot of FR FL50 as I have been bonus whoring at several sites, I really am not a very good cash game player but trying to clear bonuses on low level SnG's is nearly impossible. I am getting my roll to Pokerstars where I will be playing mostly the $5 SnG's lots of MTT's and my new favourite $.50/$1 Badugi the fishiest game I have ever seen and the only place I have seen a player sit down with $50 and ask "how do you play this".

PokerStrategy: If you had to have a theme tune to enter a poker tournament to (like boxers when they enter the ring), what would it be?

jonaton: Get over it by The Eagles, it's pretty much my view on what most people need to do in life.

PokerStrategy: Who are your favourite poker pro's and why?

jonaton: I like Hansen because I have no idea wtf he is doing I'd probably play 15 hands with him before jumping over the table and throttling him, Barry Greenstein as I wish there were more "celebrities" like him and as much as he is a cocky loud mouth goof Hellmuths 11 bracelets have to be worth something.

PokerStrategy: What do you like most about PokerStrategy?

jonaton: Well besides the obvious $50 they started me with the sheer amount I can learn, not just from the articles and videos but from the community itself. I am hoping to play in the next round of BOTD but it seemed my computer was conspiring against it this round.

PokerStrategy: Is there anyone in particular from the community you'd like to give a shout out to?

jonaton: I would like to mention tllome, not very active in the community but she is my wife so I had better mention her.

PokerStrategy: Cool, a double act, nice one. What are your passions outside of poker?

jonaton: Other than the family which comes above all the only real hobby I have is fishing which I do a lot of in the warmer months. Other than that I am a science geek and like stuff like quantum physics, astronomy and evolutionary biology.

PokerStrategy: Wow nice. Do you have any heroes/heroines outside of poker

jonaton: Heroes to me are people like my grandmother who worked for doctors without borders for decades helping the poorest of the poor and lecturing on Medicine into her 80's

PokerStrategy: Well said, yes nice to spare a thought to all unsung heroes out there. If money was no object, what would you buy?

jonaton: A tricked out Winnebago to travel North America in and 10 acres of land to build a house and my private stocked Muskie pond for fishing.

PokerStrategy: Well thank you for doing this interview jonaton, it's been great talking to you and I speak on behalf of all members in wishing you every success both on and off the green felt. .

jonaton: Cheers good luck at the tables everyone.

Something new in the Fun & Off topic thread this week which is already proving popular with members.

Talking to strangers via Omegle, read about it in this thread, but don't forget to stay safe children and never reveal personal information, or accept sweets from strange men. 😉

Just to emphasise, this is your Community page and whilst I try to browse most forum threads looking for points of interest, it's of course not possible to cover everything. So go on, drop me some suggestions and/or your thoughts on what you would like to appear in this Round-up news item in the following feedback thread.
