NL Beginners Course - Lesson 2

Lesson 2
1. - Read the articles:
» The 8 player types - How to Get Their Money - When you are playing at the lower limits, you don't need to worry about getting very specific reads on your individual opponents at the table, as you'll probably never see them again. The important thing is knowing what type of player your opponent is and how to adjust your game to counter his playing style.
» How to Play Before the Flop - Learn about preflop play by following our NL Big Stack Strategy. You can learn about different starting hands and the positions at a poker table.
» Mathematics of Poker: Odds and Outs - You'll often find yourself holding a draw and facing a raise after the flop or the turn. The question is: is it profitable to call? This is where the outs, odds and pot odds come into play. They constitute the mathematical basis used to answer this question and they are the subject of this article.
» BONUS: Crushing NL50 - This series deals with extended preflop play for No Limit Hold'em full ring. You should already be familiar with the introductory article on the basics, the starting hands chart and you should have gained some experience at the tables. Learn here how you can make profitable adjustments to your preflop play.

4. - Do the homework:
Question 1: What do you think you could play differently than suggested in the BSS Starting Hands Chart and why? (Are there any hands you would play differently? Do you have a problem or question about how a specific hand or hands should be played?)
Question 2: Do you have questions about your preflop play? Post your hand for evaluation. ( Post your hand in the Hand evaluation forums and provide a link to your hand in your private thread in the Locker Room.)
Question 3: What is the equity of AKo against the top 5% range? 5% means 88+, AJs+, KQs, AKo. ( You can either calculate this yourself or use an equity calculator such as the PokerStrategy.com Equilab.)
How to submit your homework:
Post your answers in your private thread in the Locker Room. If you haven't created a thread with your name in the Locker Room yet, please do so now as you will need it to submit your homework.
